Just returned yesterday from our own local Tanabata Festival!
The Hulon city council with the help of the Japanese embassy arranged our own Tanabata festival with most of the original Japanese Tanabata customs.

The idea here is to grab a certain kanji from the bowl and then the ladies of the stand tell you what is it called and what it means in Japanese and you can keep it for yourself to put it on your key chain or hang near the window or something like that. That was fun and cost only 5 shekels a piece.

There even was arranged a wishes tree. One of the customs on Tanabata is that you write down your wish on a paper strip (短冊 = tanzaku) and hang it on a bamboo tree.

And how can you manage without food… You got it!
The festival sold a little bit of Japanese custom foods, mostly sushi, but also drinks, noodles soup, Japanese beers, alcoholic drinks and special wooden plates to serve the sushi by the tradition.

“Ozeki Sake” is a Japanese alcoholic drink, not so strong though. I gave it a try, after which I got me-self a bottle for special occasions.

Though I'm a Japanese who live in Japan,I went to a maid cafe with my friends on that day....hehe. It was our first time to go there.
Some maids wore yukata to celebrate Tanabata^^
Anyway, great photos!

  Not so often,I suppose. Perhaps it depends on the cafe, but probably you'll find many maids in Santa cosplay on December 24 and 25^^

    In "Kaichou wa maid-sama" they change themes alot often ^_^
    
    It's going to be my first time in Japan, yes.
    I suppose I'll visit the famous places, Tokyo, Kyoto, Akihabara.. I will compose a list before I go. There are lots of things I want to see and stuff I want to try

        "Kamiya Bar" http://www.cnngo.com/ja/node/2180 (in Asakusa, Tokyo)
        
        "Yabu soba" http://www.norenkai.net/english/shop/yabusoba/index.html
        (in Kanda, Tokyo → About 5 minutes on foot from Akihabara St.)
        
        "Takashimaya" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takashimaya (in Nihonbashi,Tokyo　→ About 10 minutes by train from Akihabara St.)
        The elevator of this department store is really cool.
        
        These places are JUST MY SUGGESTION.I can' guarantee the quality of them.... I recommend you visit famous spots at first^^

Is this the same drink that characters in anime drink and then go "aahhhhhh"?... like in "To aru kagaku no index" in the tub scene?

somehow in china they have it on the lunar date(aug 16 this year).I'm born on Tanabata in the lunar date.
