Yes we arrived a little early. Top tip to our budding fresh travellers, Akiba does not start to open till 10 to 11am.

Outside the Akiba JR station we saw crows meandering.

And spotted a property rental notice board nearby. And you thought your own apartment was small and cramped.. pah!

Oh and soon after that crowd organised itself.

There's a few shops like this sprinkled throughout Akiba where locals hire small display spaces and sell their unwanted collectables. This can prove quite the treasure hunt and can save you good money if you don't mind excellent condition used figures VS a new example of something you're looking for.

Oh how this bit me. These are 50cm dolls so the clothes like that blue bunny suit simply did not fit that 60cm Smart Doll I bought later in the trip. Lesson learned.

I approve of this signage above this electronics store.

Mos hotdogs are actually pretty tasty.

The Akiba branch of Mandarake, yes the whole multi story building, otherwise referred to as their Complex store.

Nicely sized and cheap display cases. Were about 2,300y a pop. That's a 1/4 scale figure in there btw if trying to gauge dimensions.

Strolled by the Gundam Café, but it had a queue so we kept on walking.

Go carts! I must do this on my next trip.

Back in Ikebukuro, as you walk out of the JR station and hang a left you will see the main BIC Camera store and just the next building down you will see this place.

Prices were generally cheaper than Akiba, by a decent margin in some cases.

Yep another Mandarake right near the hotel, but it only carried books and manga.

Some dinner in a local Danny's. A nice American chain that migrated and found a new home in Japan. Tasty garlic fries in this case.
