Tokyo International Anime Fair 2017. Huge day of the trip and something of a bucket list tick box for some given its the largest Anime convention in the world and held on hallowed ground being Tokyo Big Sight.

The weather was kind to use this day seeing as we spent, more or less, the same amount of time in the queue to get in, as we did being in the convention itself.

Perhaps something a little mundane to start the post off with, but laundry can be interesting too! Part of my own minimalism when traveling is to only pack enough shirts for around 60% of the trip and instead take advantage of the cleaning services on offer at hotels.

What's nice is you tend to get your dirty shirts back looking not only cleaner, but also packed in a way to make them look better than when they were new. Each has paper inserted to help keep their shape, were folded neatly and air tight sealed inside plastic bags.

In this case 6 regular T shirts worked out to 2,640y,

The famous Tokyo Big Sight building. For those not in the know, its actually part of a huge multi exhibition hall complex. The Anime Fair was in a different part to the left and down towards the water.

That's a lot of people. We showed up around when the doors were meant to open and there were already this many in the queue!

Fantastic action show full of great animation and a gritty plot.

It can be difficult to portray the scale and size of the two convention halls being used for this, but I imagine you could fly a full size helicopter around and not worry about hitting the ceiling much.

Worth mentioning that there were a lot of displays and panels with speakers that worked on shows and even voice actors, but if you were hoping for merchandise... there isn't much. Kinda makes sense given its a short ride to Akiba and you can find more range there.

The local conventions in Australia have a huge dealer turn out, which can simply be put down to goods being not as plentiful or accessible as they are in Japan I imagine. I hear this is likewise true in other parts of the world.

Scooters are big in Japan. Sadly their budget did not stretch to a small sports car like a Hachi Roku or Miata/MX5.

There's a funny story behind this photo. The guy in the middle was simply a fan that was cosplaying, but when the actual stars spotted him they dragged him to the front and made him pose with them. At first he was really reluctant, but then got into things once the shyness wore off.

I'm a huge fan of this show. Happy to see a second session, but sadly its not a continuation and more of a side story. Lips are sealed, watch it for yourself!
