MG Astray Red Fram Kai - COMPLETE!
Heya everyone~! So as the title says, I'm done assembling my second GunPla - MG 1/100 Astray Red Frame KAI! Included in this post are two photos of what he looks like right now... 10 straight hours of building. I'm a slow builder? XD
10:00 AM to 11:00 AM = Clear coating
11:00 AM to 9:00 PM = Assembling and Panel Lining

What bothers me is that there are quite a few pieces left on the runners... I think they're enough to make some sort of gun with some gatling barrels and stuff... But I checked the instructions yet again and I didn't see the use of any of those left parts. Infact, there was a pair of daggers left on the runders which fit the peg that allows Astray to equip his weapons...

Here he is... on my next post, probably tomorrow, I'll do a photoshoot of him similar to what I did with Exia, together with a mini-review perhaps? I'm satisfied with my build, he's nearly nub-less on his body (EAT THAT EXIA'S SHOULDER PADS!) except on his feet. By the time I was building his weapon, I was already so lazy that I wasn't able to clear the nubs on the grey(?) parts of his sword.

the extra parts are meant for the Astray Blue Frame kit. most of them are for building the tactical arms in blue frames configuration (with the gatling gun) rather than red frames with the beam bow. you will notice on page 5 of the manual that all of those parts are marked with X's, meaning that they are not needed on this kit.
things like extra peices happen alot when you are dealing with kits that are remodels of previous ones.
Yeah, there were X's on some parts. I guess I can fondle with the extra parts and maybe I can make something out of them. XD They look nice.
Well you can refer to my RF Kai post to see how to use those extras... XD
I'm impressed w/ your work (Although it would help if u added more pictures)
The exciting part about extra parts is the feeling of discovery, like imaging yourself in their world and stumbling upon extra equipment makes you feel like you get more from your buck. BTW, have you considered doing the Armoured Core line? Its note worthy if your into NEXTS.
Heya neighbour! XD
I will add more photos (perhaps a photoshoot) on my next post. Armored Core are completely costums-only right? Like you buy them part by part? Well it surely does sound exciting but I believe they're pretty expensive.
Nah, you can't buy every AC part for a kit, they're in 1/72 scale by the way. They sell arm, head and weapon packs, but most of them are full mecha. If you really want something wierd and awesome, I suggest the LaHire STATIS or the Alicia Unsung. They come with about forty to fifty runners, yet completely lack inner frames. Paint is completely unrequired on them, as just about every minor detail is a seperate part.
I just don't recommend them for anyone who's not super-experienced, as any part that looks sharp on the mech's design is also rather sharp on the kits (read: knife-sharp).
Most of the Armored Core Variable Infinity (VI) line consists of full-fledged ACs, with all the components required to make a normal AC. Normally they make molds of famous ACs like the Fascinator (Zanaida's AC from Last raven) the ACs from openings like the CR-75U2 Close combat ver. and CR-C840/UL Lightweight ver. (Opening ACs from AC3), and various option parts (weapons/extensions sets, head sets and 2 types of extra arms, being the MG and laser blade arms). All parts are interchangeable with one another, meaning you can get full customization between ACs of the same type (ACs from before AC4 can switch parts, but not as well with ACs from AC4 and onwards), but painting is required to get all the parts to match in color, especially if you are mixing purple arms with blue legs and a red torso. A large number of (mostly small) runners means better color separation, but makes some parts a bit structurally weak, which is why glue is recommended (and sometimes essential) when building these things.
A bit strict on the details eyh? And 50 runners? It'll take me millions of year to finish that! This MG had 29 Runners, and took more than 9 hours to finish... I could only imagine how 50 Runners would go!
Much improvement!! NICE!!! hope we see more of your works!!! Buy your next gunpla NAO!! XD
I have to restrain myself on doing just that. My Figmas would hate me if they realize I haven't started saving on Rider yet. xD Well, after I get Rider, I'm hoping to get the next MG I fell in love with after I saw Astray. And that's MG 1/100 Gundam Zero Custom (was that right?) with the awesome articulated wings. He's very cheap... well, compared to this Astray, he IS cheap!
Do not be offended but.. What camera did you use? I can't see the pictures clearly
That's cuz I used maximum flash strength. Apparently, even Matte tends to show a sign of gloss when faced with such harsh flashes. XD
I used a DSLR. Canon EOS 40D.
Wow those pro cameras huh..
I really thought you used some cheap @$$ point then shoot cams
Heey, don't call them cheap! XD Everyone starts out at a point and shoot...
Sorry for calling them cheap XD
You sire, are a god.
You should take a little more time to make your gunplas. Don't get too over excited like my friend does. Spread it over a few days if possible. For me, 6 runners takes me months to build.
Also don't use flash when taking pics. Flash ruins everything. :P
