Taking a Chance on Double Down
If you've lived in the U.S. or Canada or in the internet, you might've heard about Kentucky Fried Chicken (or KFC) and their new "sandwich". I've put "sandwich" in quotes because really it's made of bacon, pepperjack cheese and mayo (or Colonel's sauce), and instead of bread buns, they use two pieces of boneless white meat chicken as buns. So you can imagine how heart-attacky that thing sounds.
Yet, I wasn't afraid. I made a special trip (along with other shopping since the Canadian dollar is almost at par with the US) to get this Double Down. WARNING this post is NSFHS (Not Safe for Hungry Stomachs) and NSFYH (Not Safe for Your Health).

This is what they say on their website:
The new KFC Double Down sandwich is real! This one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce. This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!
The Double Down comes in two versions – Original Recipe® or Grilled and the nutrition information is below.
KFC Original Recipe® Double Down - 540 calories - 32 g of fat - 1380 mg of sodium
KFC Grilled Double Down - 460 calories - 23 g of fat - 1430 mg of sodium
And here's the official commercial

TakoLuka came along with the ride... Ok and I was sharing this thing with two other people, so I didn't eat this by myself.

The verdict? It's not bad... but like Colonel's original recipe, it's very, very salty. And this has the least amount of sodium? It's got some spicy taste to it too. The bacon was hardly there, especially since you got two thick pieces of salty chicken overpowering everything else in between.

And of course the bottom is greasy as well. Behind us were two older ladies who ordered one each of this "sandwich". I didn't stay until they finished, but I can bet they finished it all. We were already full from an earlier lunch, so one was quite a lot for us... Plus it's two pieces of chicken!

Here's a cutout view, lol. We ate it with fork and knife. It's too much of a mouthful to eat.

It was actually hard to find a KFC in that area. Got lost once already... Even though it's very salty, it's actually quite tasty... I may go back one more time, lol. I'll just have to remember to exercise a lot after eating it ^^;

My first bite was full of flavor, Death, sodium, a hint of bacon, was all found in this CHIKON sandwich.
Adamn, you didn't take a bite yet.
I haven't tried it yet, but i'm sure it gonna be full of flavor and oil.
I'll surely try this one if it comes here in the philippines :)
2x for the first try XD
Can you say heart attack in a bun.........oh wait. (Personally it looks like something only America could come up with in order to clog up the arteries of it's many customers.)
they pretty much looked at their menu and said, "eff it, our food is already bad for your, lets see how far we can push the limit of craziness." this does that job pretty well, you can tell that KFC isnt taking this seriously and its just a big poke at the health food craze.
id like to try one, but the KFC where i am right now is terrible so ill wait a couple weeks until i get home and get one there. im looking forward to it.
I think you nailed it right with your first statement!
I vowed never to return to KFC(I used to work there -_- ), but I wanna buy some fillets to make this thing...
We had this in australia. unfortunately it didnt last long due to its content. but personally i wouldnt eat it
Yo dwag, I heard you like meat so we put meat in your meat in your meat so you could eat meat while...
I'll probably buy it once and never eat another for the next five years or so...
I should check it out here XD
Looking at it makes me sick. ^^;
Don't get Luka greasy now.
The paper cover was enough to prevent some grease on TakoLuka... but I mean TakoLuka's already slimy as it is...
Mmmm..heart attack in a meal..yummy!
It looks scary....
540 calories... if it was your main meal for that day you'd be fine, could go about your day as normal I spose without any extra excercise lol.
But still.. looks scary... XD
if you think thats scary, you should see the burgars the americans serve up. overall its a horrible thing to eat due to its calories content
Such as the Krispy Kreme donut bacon cheeseburger.
thats nothing compared to the heart attack burgers
google it
I don't think calories is the problem here...
It's all the sodium, grease, increase to your cholesterol level, saturated fat and what else...
Someone I know tried it and said it was pretty good except for the cheese sauce, which he hated.
Yeah, it's bad for you, but it *shouldn't* kill you to try it once... Can't be much worse than Micky-D's Spicy Thai Salad... I'd hit that once, at least...
This is no longer a sandwich, since two salty chicken "buns" are overpowering everything. Since your traditional sandwich models after harmonious taste and balance in flavor mixture.
If I was still playing High School football, Id definitely try this ! The amount of work we do in one day of practice is more than enough to burn all that stuff. But since I have a busted shoulder, I dont work out as much as I should and therefore will prolly stay away from this beast haha.
I have yet to try it but I remember sitting in my networking class with friends look at the Double Down on the screen and worshiping it
I had one last Monday and that kept me full for the rest of the day, I ordered the combo and watched some anime movies later. The cheese was not melted, I would buy the regular original fillet sandwich and get on with my life.
I remember the two years i worked at KFC was kind of like "Working!", but without the Moe, the nice food and of course, self-respect.
When I first heard of this, I couldn't help by think about the "meat on meat" sandwich from Ren and Stimpy.
Almost tempted to try it though...just to see it with my own eyes (and taste it of course)
I went and had one on the first day it came out. I had to wait about 15 minutes because everyone in the restaurant ordered one. It was actually pretty good, except for the copious amounts of grease (and KFC running out of napkins). Probably wouldn't get another one, but I think it's a pretty fun experience that I had to try at least once.
Haha it's almost like a major event. Yes, the grease was quite a lot after we were done with it. And I'd say just try once would be nice... Just don't eat it everyday for goodness sake!
NO wonder..us people so many ...heart attack and stroke
Bro Don't eat too much okay?
Eat this kind of high cholesterol meat ..omg..not even bun with carbo but meat with fats..
Beware western bro out thr who loved western food so much
Good thing it's not readily available in Canada (yet). To get this I had to drive for about 2 hours and a lineup at the border for 1.5 hours, lol. But you're right, moderation is best. If I still lived in Indonesia, I probably won't be this heavy.
looks like a soul food to me
I don't understand the trend here lately to not only offer, but wrap up these heat attacks on a tray. I think KFC should have just out right called this thing the Widow Maker and gotten it over with.
I'd like to try it, but as far as I know they're not releasing it here in the UK. Nanny state and all that. "You can't do this, you can't eat that..."
This is recommended for those people who are tired of life but are too pussies to commit suicide the usual ways.
Go go pussier ways! Until the suicide booth is invented...
Not quite heaven but you can get there just by eating it XD
It'll take you to heaven before it brings you to (stomachache) hell!
XD XD XD XD
