Experiment before deciding on lens purchase

It's Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro.
I’ve been eyeing on this lens for quite a long time….
Tried to reason with myself to make sure my decision is sound and it will not leave me any regrets.
So I conducted an experiment with my existing lens.
Full details on my blog~ Beware though, There's a fair amount of Wall-Of-Text.. Accompanied by photos though as well as some insights (if it's any helpful) on how I shoot my figurines.

if space is an issue, why not just use a 50mm macro?
Space is an issue but not a critical one for my case. I'd personally prefer 90mm too as I do like to take tight portrait shots. That's something 90mm can give me without being too intrusive. :)
so your camera only takes AF-S... mine too but I got lucky with a 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor lens (which is my favorite lens) it works on my D40x (except for auto focus which I like to do manual anyway), the lens will meter and let you know when it's in focus. Great lens for cheap. I don't think it works for a D5000 though, but maybe check into it. I've also seen a newer 35mm AF-S lens which looks good too.
I have 50mm 1.8D too. It's really hard to focus with the small and dark viewfinder I have. But I really appreciate the quality it produces.
i owned this lens before, i'm very much disappointed with it, although it has build-in motor, but the focusing speed very damn slow, and work very poor in low light, image not bad, quite sharp. eventually i sold it already after 2 months use. i would seriously recommend you get the NIKKOR AF-S DX Micro 85mm f/3.5G ED VR, its sharp, super fast focusing, great bokeh effect. http://www.nikon.com.my/productitem.php?pid=1352-155ca6f546
I personally find it ok without the fast focusing speed and VR mode. I definitely believe no matter what the focusing speed will definitely be faster than my manual focusing hahahahaha. I also work on full manual when I take shots of my figurines in the dark so I'm pretty sure I can handle it :D
I will still stick to 90mm as:
1)It has a wider aperture.
2) It is usable on full frame camera.
Thanks for the recommendation anyway!
by the way, the price?not much different with the Tamron 90mm. u won't regret
