Those balls make awesome chairs. I had one in my last job.

Can you balance yourself on it with out having your legs touching the floor? ;)

It is an exercising ball, but it is great for prolonged sitting because it forces you to use you abs and lower back muscles to balance yourself on it. I have had much less lower back pain after using it :)

This sounds great. I keep reading articles saying that sitting too long is harmful in the long term regardless (of adding any compensating exercise).

Does it make you continually fidget around to keep balanced or somehow help you take breaks more often? I find it hard to take a break when focusing on something but it'd be nice to have better blood circulation.

Sitting too long is definitely bad. I like the exercising ball, it is great that the pressure is evenly distributed. And because it is a sphere, it is a lot easier to adjust your hip angle so that it does not lock to the angle of your chair. I do move my hip a lot when I sit on it. My feet would be on the floor anyway so it is not like I am doing acrobatic balancing on it. If you sit a lot, I would definitely recommend this as an alternative.

It's an interesting way to sit. Though I have never done so myself, I know a few people who do. It really is a good workout, because it forces you to sit properly. My executive chair is ergonomic, so it's got the shape to force proper posture. And it's mostly comfortable. But I've worn the padding out in the front of the seat.

I did try a few chairs before settling with the exercising ball. Somehow the bounciness of an exercising ball is unique amongst anything I tried :)

Thank you Meimi132, it is an inflatable exercising ball but it makes a great seat because it allows you to exercising your lower back while sitting on it. I got it from a local fitness store.

Thanks Noein-Disgaea, I wish the surface is not plastic tho. It fees if I press too hard on it I can scratch it. But oh well, a tool is meant to be used and if scratching it is what it takes to get something done, so be it :)

The ball is not that big actually, it is 26" in diameter. So when I sit on it, my feet actually are on the floor. The surface is not slippery so I won't fall off of it. My elbows are always on the desk (the L shape desk really helps) so I am very supported. And from time to time I can rock my hip a bit to get some lower body exercise :P
