Mega Scale? What's that?

So with this year being Gundam's 30th Anniversary, Bandai has been putting out limited edition models like crazy, mostly of the RX-78-2. So far, we're getting the RG 1/144, the 1/1 statue in Japan, and we also had the lolhuge Mega Scale 1/48 not too long ago. But apparently, Bandai's not done yet. And their next RX-78-2 product is going to be big.

And I mean BIG.

Recently announced by Bandai Hobby Online Shop is the Gundam 30th Anniversary Limited HY2M 1/12 Gundam RX-78-2. That's right. One-TWELVE scale. This monster will reportedly stand at 1.5 meter (a little under five feet) tall and weigh around 35 kg when assembled. This thing will take up an entire corner of your room. In fact, the only thing bigger than the kit is how much it costs. Are you ready for it?

350,000 Yen. Excluding tax. For the same amount, I could buy a PS3 and a nice collection of games to go with it.

Would you even consider buying something like this?

Not quite. it's more like an over-sized HCM-Pro in the sense that all parts are already pre-assembled (no parts on runners), but you have to put them together (they're not going to ship a human-sized box to your doorstep now, are they?). it's pretty neat, but definitely not something that the average Gundam enthusiast can afford (except Dalong).

It is funny to think about. When I saw the question, at first I thought, "Goodness, wouldn't that be awesome in my house, a really nice display piece that will generate a lot of talk." Then I started to think about how much room it would take up, and what else I could buy with all of the money. Guess it is better as a thought than an actual part of the house. Imagine the shipping cost. Phew!

Bandai had already released the 1/12 scale RX78 and Zaku a few years ago. Its the same one you see in stores on display all the time. This is just a limited run of the same kit for the 30th anniversary. Probably just some new detailing to match the 1/1 30th anniversary gundam.

yeah, seriously people, this is nothing new.

my local hobby shop has a 1/12 scale RX-78 in front of their gunpla isle. it is about 5 feet tall, has alot of panel lines (its based on the old MG 1.5 Gundam), individual finger joints, a beam rifle and shield.

this is probably just a rerelease with some new colors or decals.

why is it always RX-78? a 1/100 alpha azieru or neue ziel would be nicer, not to mention a PG 1/60 Kshatriya

I wouldnt buy that thing. It costs way to much for me, however, if it randomly fell on my door step for free, I wouldnt complain.

Even though the RX-78 is one of my favorite Gundams, I wouldnt buy this even if i hat that kind of money laying around. Now, if i had that sort of cash, and this thing had the inner detailing and gimmicks to make the PG look like a sad joke on the back of a cracker jack box, now that would be something worth pondering over..

It's almost five feet tall, and probably has at least thirty to fifty runners of parts. I think it's worth 4000 bucks. Honestly, the HY2M line's 1/24-scale one was awesomely enormous, could smoke, shake hands, and run down a car. This is going to be even better.
(If anyone's curious about the 1/24-scale RX-78, you can find a review of it on Dalong)

I voted yes I'd consider this because if I had the money and the space , it would be a no-brainer, shipping this any where will cost a hefty fee I'm sure though. I though I was going big when I picked up my Mega Size Gundam and now this. If I hit the lotto soon, this is all mine.
