Buying Doujinshi

In my first instance of buying doujinshi, I discovered three of my favourite doujinshi, and decided it was about time to buy them. I'm a fan of Crimson Comics, the above image is from my favourite one they made. :D

:S A little nervous, since Canada does not have a good track record for doujinshi.... Hope it goes well... Might not work out XD Then again, a guy from the States brings BOXES worth on Doujinshi to Anime North so it should be ok. :( Anyone in Canada ever have problem?

Also, where do you go for Doujinshi? Ebay? A Doujinshi Online Store?
I found some really nice people on Ebay, but I'm curious what you guys do.

I think my favorite Doujin artist is Bosshi. Just beautiful drawings ^_^

I'm rather disheartened by the fact that many of these illustrators that draw primarily hardcore ecchi material have impeccable and amazing styles yet don't put out any non-ecchi doujin or art books Oo I really would love to have a collective works from such artists like Udon Ya, Sameda Koban, Ishikei, Tosh, Nishieda, etc...

Osuzu Akiomi put out this...well questionable in material...doujin that really showed off the breathe of their style. The girl in that one was one of the well drawn I have ever seen. The level of detail in the eyes and face...I really have never seen before even in illustrations of mainstream artists. Really, she was gorgeous. I would post a link up a preview but most of the panels are really ecchi (.OO).

I stripped out the tamed panels, focusing on portions that highlight the detail of this artist. Don't worry, it's safe for work (>^^)> Though it doesn't do her justice any of the least bit. You'll need to read the doujin for that. Even though its ecchi, really, the doujin is a prime example of just solid beautiful art work.

Gorgeous! Hopefully this artist will wind up like the ladies of CLAMP, and graduate to "big league" manga/anime. Gorgeous drawings, great inking. I would love to see the pencils.

You've named quite a few of my favorite artists there. Huge fan of Udon-ya, NiseMidi and Nishieda too :D
I've been hoping for non-ero art books/doujinshi from them as well. Too bad not many of them had done so.
I was so happy when Takeda Hiromitsu started on "Maken-Ki!" since I love his drawing style.

That preview looks great... Thanks for pointing out another great artist.

On the topic, I guess it's always risky to import ero-doujinshi, and apparently even riskier in some countries. I live in Australia, and while I've never had my items seized, they seem to randomly open my packets of figures - never shipped anything extremely lolilicious though.

I wonder if it's because they started with ecchi doujin that it's hard to go into non-ecchi work. I mean, it's hard to put on your resume that you drew ecchi art, right?

I also had a similar question. I was thinking of buying some from toranoana using a deputy service, but im a loli lover, and after i heard about that incident about the guy getting arrested here in the states for loli im kinda hesistant. The law isnt really too clear about it either...(my favorite ichigo mashimaro doujin is on ebay right now too :() Good Luck getting through!

You may be fine if it gets overlooked by the Postal Service, and if that case were not to happen then the degree of explicitness of the illustrations.

If you lived up Canada that may be a different story considering all the horror stories of people having their packages seized by Customs. They're very tight regarding such items and chances are even if its harmless, if the package is addressed from Japan they'll probe through the entire content with a magnifying glass Oo Or so the story goes...

I guess importing H-doujinshi could be risky at some place

I don't dare buying doujinshi over the net and ship it here... I was already nervous when I went to an American con and bought them there and bring it back home. Thankfully they didn't check my luggage. I suppose it's at your own risk. The worst thing they can do is confiscate it, and hopefully not blacklisting >.> Though the latest news from Japanator is kinda a sigh of relief.

Yeah, moreover, I even saw some at Anime North, and the vendor had a WHOLE BUNCH of Doujins with him, despite the fact he was from the states, as I mentioned before. Also, there seem to plenty of Canadian people buying more risque doujins in higher quantities so I should be ok...

The problem is they can refuse to import items that are deemed "obscene", which is really vague.

I really wonder how those guys get past through customs. I guess if you're not suspicious looking then you're ok XD

I know what you mean. There's a ton I want to buy too, but the postal service is just so nosy. I just wait it out til the cons. There's a guy from "Hen Da Ne" that comes by and he's got a great selection! Boxes of them ^_^ found quite a few of my faves from him, and hope to find more at the next con!
