AnimeAffection suggested that a mega post showcasing how an artist develops their style would be great ^^ personally, i dont think my stuff is interesting enough so i was having second thoughts. but then again, i might not have the chance to do this in the coming week so i thought, what the hell, and jumped into my sudden death xDDDD
below is the history of me from violence to subtlety. please enjoy ;)

the very first sketch i did after going on hiatus for 4 years. was also the first upload i have on dA which got told off cause it looks liek a character from a game :\ this was before i have even any idea of human anatomy.

after countless nights and wasted paper, i kinda got the wind of the human anatomy. though, not perfect it came out still satisfying and "ok"

baby steps on battle scenes. was a HUGE fanboi of hellsing and kohta hirano xD

first OC that i did. typical good-gone bad character. i got tired of such thing eventually. but back in the days this guy was the most badass oc i drew

mecha madness. was also a fanboi of mega man back in the day. people can never comprehend how many sketchbooks i had full of doodles of androids and gundams

then started the descent into darkness. became a huge gore fan when i became METULLLLLL \m/ did heaps of gorey doodles with machinery and cadavers and such.

still more gore galore...

then came the fantasy phase. this bastard came out when i was a fan of negima! and wanted to make a nemesis for setsuna. twas also my first take on manual coloring with pastels and watercolor and such.

then i thought i sucked at manual coloring so i harnessed skills with pen and ink. this guy is one of me best back in the day. i think he is A3 size and had to ask my teacher to scan it in the school's A3 scanner.
hes a huge bastard....came together from a disfigured reject face sketch

then came the big one^^ GIMP was the only photoediting tool that was available to me and there were no tablets and such to work with. i spent hours and hours online studying tutes on digital coloring. i discovered how useful layers were xD

after years, months, seasons, eras, of sketching, sampling, trial and error, failed relationships (lol) and rejected artworks, i finally took the turn of creating my first female OC....kyoko. personified objects were the hype so i did one that resembled my samsung mp3 player. back then i was: "wow, i cant believe i just did this"
so she became an essential part in my life as an artist. she is often used as a model for various works.
my first draw of a girl is a chibi of yui..but the sketchbook was thrown away and nao i cant find it. two words, IT SUCKS

then k-on came and made me into a yui zombie general. i had an idea to make yui wear the clothes that i usually wear, that is: BLACK. she also had that hairstyle that my oc had. so needless to say, i had a lot of fun with this one.

then i became serious. i was determined to get that style that i wanted...and fast. i redid kyoko and whipped up a random oc which will go with kyo-chan's boyishness.
then came mirai-kun. name is a coincidence? yes. this was way back before i had even any idea of dc , figure.fm and who danny choo is
(sorry! please dont shoot me ><) only to discover that the man, and the two sites will have a VERY GREAT INFLUENCE later on. thanks fellas ;)

back to the drawing board and getting my coloring style put together....before, gore and murder and violence is my cup of tea but now, its cute, fluffy, and light hearted xD
whos to blame? i dont know. but i felt that gore didnt really get me anywhere unlike fuwa fuwa did. i even thought that gore was just an immature way of hiding my insecurities and pathetic spineless nutcrushing self.
fuwa fuwa saved my life? it surely did.

did somebody say loli? tried lucky star style too^^ while appearing easy to the majority, that kind of moe is VERY hard to master. so i took the elements that made it moe and experimented.^^

now, back to the mecha side of things. started coloring random sketches and i found myself more comfy with mecha back in the day. there was actually a necron monolith beyond that mountain but the idea wasnt panning out so i trashed it.

if theres an OC, surely theres an OM. this bastard was my first original mecha. being a huge zeonist, i wanted zeon to win so i made them a suit that has ideon-ish abilities. what they are exactly, well...youll just have to ask me cause my fingers are getting tired of typing.

same cookie, different pose

and whats this??? yui again? random sketch turned into this. wanted to break it off a little and go for a more painterly look. perhaps this is an epiphany in yui's adulthood? waking up with you husubando gone and left you with only a letter?
to yui:
"went out for a jog. gonna buy some milk <3"
LOL

and mirai kun hanging out in the roof. love that bg, yeah? starting to get my crap together and getting some things right.
his pants kinda annoy me tho,,,

collab by a friend from the phil. still getting things right at this stage.

same cookie. her legs are way off. but that served as a lesson for latter works

and kyoko refined. things still remain off but im getting there...i hope.....

and whats an oc without an imouto? this is her sister, aki. she cries a lot. =P

studied side views and such. even if i think shes kinda masculine, ppl still liked her. ood how ppl tend to like the things you dont xD

aki grew up a bit and didnt cry as much as she used to. really getting my coloring together at this stage

bck to the drawing board. tired of lucky star-ish style nd went fro a more mature, yet loli-ish look (?)

same cookie but a tsundere =P

and this is how some of my stuff look generally. trad ink, didigtal color. still moe-fying my girls up to nao =P
my recent stuff is seen here of figure.fm..im sure many have seen the flower girl, the yandere, etc etc. whether i have improved over the years, i dont know. thats something that is judged by the latter and not me.
whether i end up walking with the gods or end up as a beggar on the streets is uncertain. but, as long as i have my hands im going to keep on truckin xD
im gonna stop boring you nao and leave you off here^^
--transmission end--

now things really getting interesting. wanted to do something out of the ordinary so i picked drama =P am and still are a huge opethian so this is an interpretation of their song, "to bid you farewell" i learned a lot during the time i was making this so i was pleased^^

Let's see if i can understand you through your art from start to finish... This is just for fun XD. You mentioned starting out with violence. Is this because of the way society treated you and your feelings towards them? You then become lonely, wanting a friend/companion hoping for someone to bring light into your life? You watched gundam/mecha anime XD and become lonely again? Now you want a girl but she is hard to get, she is confident, she is someone you want to protect, and she is always interesting. That just about sums it up. What do you think?
im not sure if youre poking my bad side or not. but id say youre about 40% correct xDDDDDDD. bad shit happened to me so why wouldnt it affect my train of thought. but now all is well and calm........8chirp chirp8
but i watched gundam way back in the day...when i was 8 years old. never tried drawing them until nao
No, I'm just trying to get the feeling from your work ^^;
It really is interesting to see how an artist develops their style over the years especially when the artist has experience in various fields. Gores and mecha are things I simply cannot duplicate^^;
I might do a similar post in the coming days but their won't be much to show as I have started to draw merely a year ago...orz
you show promise however (><)b
Take your time and do it whenever you are free or inspired. ^^ If you have flickr or twitter i can add you.
Yeah, I think I will^^ and here's my twitter/flickr account if you're interested

tis mostly in Japanese and I seldom do updates on it though^^;
Interesting trip down your life works as an artist ...
lol that's a lot of pic xD
Love your girls and sketches xD
lovely~ I found it interesting and inspiring~
You need to work on the predrawing sketch phase. All your heads seem lopsided. Need to use curved spines.
shouldve stuck with guro.... ;___;
well, sorry. im over that phase nao :\
I love this view of her! :D
