It's been awhile since I talked about getting my first figure and after that I fell in love with the otaku culture and have gotten some more figures. Here is what I got so far. :3

some really awesome figures to start off with! As a fellow figure collector otaku my biggest piece of advice to you is quality over Quantity. i used to just get tons of figures then realized about 40% of them suck! so i sold them off and pruned my collection. For now that you're starting out go for really good quality figures and characters you really love! You'll never regret getting good figures!

I see a slight bias for Alter, still nice start. I do agree with Dancing Queen, quality over quantity.
You have to have a bias towards Alter and GSC/Max Factory and maybe Kotobukiya. The other companies is just not up to par most of the time and just disappoint.
you forgot Megahouse, POP DX line and Macross Frontier figures have the great quality
