I might have purchased a fake Nendoroid >.<
I recently bought my first nendoroid...from eBay. Yeah yeah shaddup i know there are tons of fakes on it but I had hope for this one! Here are my problems:
-Advertised as new: hell no it isn't, clear packing tape was used and there are all these cardboard box shavings stuck to them, not to mention none of the parts inside are taped to the plastic and there are even TWO pieces of tape over certain areas. Definitely used or a fake with a really bad packing employee.
-Parts are all loose: they will stay in of course...if i don't breathe or even look at it...I can deal with this though
-Paint job is shoddy: I can also deal with this since it isn't TOO BAD
-Here's the part I -can't- deal with
THE BASE DOESN'T FIT? unless im blind or mentally retarded the thing that is clear and looks like its for potty training belongs on her ass but it doesnt fit no matter what i do, the panties aren't the right shape >.>
Now this is my first nendoroid >.> so i really don't know what is real and what is fake @_@ could someone help me out?

Clear indication that this is a fake. It should say something along the lines of the company, who she's copyrighted too, year produced/copyrighted, and then origin of production
Almost definately fake since the stand doesn't have the GSC logo on it and kust "Made in China"
Well, after you own a few, you can kind of FEEL whether it's real or not. THe quality of the paint and material is usually a lot better in an actual nendo.
That's why when I do go on eBay to get this stuff, I make sure the listing states that it is authentic, and/or manufactured by the true manufacturer. That way, if it's fake I can file a complaint, since it's false advertising.
That is 100% fake. Just look at the base, its says MADE IN CHINA whereas an official Nendoroid would have different writing.
fml, just in case you guys want to know the seller was http://myworld.ebay.com/sale-anime/
im opening a dispute now, thanks for the help guys
Since it is hard to differentiate genuine product from fake when you purchase these over ebay, you will have to watch out for other things.
Price: This is a big give away, Snow Miku is an exclusive rare nendoroid, $18.99 is definitely shady.
Authenticity: The seller did not mention the name of producer, in this case Good Smile Company. The seller did not also clarify if this product is authentic product.
Location: Most of fake good sellers are from China/Hong Kong. Seller's rating and achievements(?) let you gauge with better accuracy.
Description: For some reason most fake figure sellers on ebay frequently use following descriptions.
- Made of high quality PVC/plastic.
- Choke Warning
As for the actual product, you can check for paint application (dirty paint job, gloss finish on every parts), small circle sticker that is suppose to be on the box, parts not fitting nicely, and nendoroid base only showing "Made in China" with no mention of GSC.
That Nendoroid was a limited edition Wonfes items. Those who bought them over the internet have to wait until June/July as they are being made on order.
The only way to get it prior was to go Wonfes or go to that other anime convention somewhere in Japan (I forgot :S).
Shiny glossed over plastic...typical fake.
anyone have a picture of the original? and the base? i want to add that as proof for my case
I really don't understand why anyone would be foolish enough to buy a limited edition figure on eBay...
It's just too good to be true.
Lesson learnt : NEVER USE EBAY to buy figures unless you know they are legit (e.g. NOT shipped from China, legit photos uploaded by eBay user etc.)
Plenty of real ones there, usually for 2-3 times the cost of when it was actually sold ;)
Of course, sometimes have fake for $80 for a $30 figure as well on eBay. Need to use trusted sellers.
to be honest, you're kinda being an asshole. just saying
um that post i made looks like it is referring to Thunder_God, not it's referred to otaku-jnr. i appreciate your info about this being a fake but your other comments are definitely unneccessary.
Nothing wrong with purchasing limited edition figure from eBay, you just need to know what to look for. Most exclusive/out of production nendoroid goes from $50 to 100~ depends on its popularity.
Although i now have a paypal, i am wary about buying at ebay as there are many many fakes out there. My problem with ebay is that they don't do anything about people selling fake items, but i do understand that there are loopholes around prohibitions and policies that they have, and with that there may be no argument about buying a knock off product that could be potentially hazardous. Quick question, how much did you spend on her? Because i would be quite furious if they were selling her for the price of an official one because that my friend is just wrong, trying to pass a knock off for an official product. Maybe next time try looking at other sites before turning to ebay, like Mandarake, i believe that they have a couple.
$20 but apparently the only limited edition snow miku was the nendoroid PUCHI but what i bought was the big nendoroid. so i assumed that this one could be legit.
this only makes me wonder...i also bought a saber lily (different seller) but i also bought a saber lily nendo....
Puchi was a bonus to a CD, which was sold for limited amount. So I would be careful if I were you.
My advice is to send in a complaint to the seller. Do NOT communicate outside of ebay. If they tell you to email them, don't do it.
I bought a bootleg Figma and managed to get %100 of my money returned. Just stand your ground.
yeah i sent ebay messages and opened up a dispute, instead of "full refund" i said "still want item" hopefully i'll get a legit version.
For the price you paid, there's no way he can even if he wants to.
pretty much but i want to be as much of an asshole to this guy as possible, my cousin-in-law's friend is the manager of a company that makes fake stuff and when i met her i made her feel so embarrassed and ashamed that she just left and my cousin-in-law told me later she was crying. She was making fake LV, Gucci, DC etc. and making a nice profit but then she meets me (an American born Chinese) and I went off on her, like telling her how she must be retarded and completely out of the loop since the popular brands vary widely now.
of course i didnt say it so directly, but i said it clear enough that she got the message.
Crying eh? I thought most people in that sort of industry are very resilient.
It is not like they didn't know manufacturing fake good is bad thing, what's the use of feeling ashamed and embarrassed now :P
You'll never get the real thing that way, it's just waste of time and effort.
Acting like and asshole to the seller won't help you. Since the listing did not specify the product to be legit and authentic they're already a step ahead of you.
dont worry, my first 4 were fake :P
=( i've bought like 6-7 figures from ebay so far, this is my first fake
Now im starting to doubt my other figures, they look legit enough but they're all made in china >.>
im pretty sure that most japanese companies use china so i dont know what to think anymore @_@
Almost everything is made in China. Probably even the clothes you're wearing (esp. if they're label items) are from China. Cheap labor.
This should serve as a lesson. Most nendos that are posted below 30USD (if they're brand new) are definitely too good to be true. Especially if they're limited edition ones like Snow Miku.
It doesn't hurt to research a bit first before purchasing :) it might take some time, but it would definitely be worth it. I also suggest inquiring the seller about the goods and asking for actual photos of the product and not company photos. Actual photos most of the time says a lot.
As for the dispute, if you put in complete details you would most likely get your money back from paypal, but don't expect that the seller would even think of giving you the legit item. Snow Miku is a limited edition item and would be worth more than 5 times the money you paid.
and a wonderfest snow miku at that !!!!
and the twin tails are transparent^^.
Sorry to hear it! You should be fine, though, if you can prove to eBay that it's fake.
Like a few other people have said, just be careful when buying from eBay. ^o^
- Looking at this seller's other listings, he has GSC's Moka Akashiya (six in total in this listing), BIN, for only $15.99 and shipping is not a ridiculous price. Moka is known to have bootlegs of her and authentic items of her are rare so she should be more expensive, so a clear indication among others that this seller sells bootlegs. (also, sometimes sellers will BIN price their items super low to attract you, but the shipping will will be so expensive that it evens out the fair market value, but that is clearly not the case here.)
- How much did you purchase Snow Miku for? Was it "too good to be true"? Because the rest of this seller's items are if you look at the pricing from the standpoint that they are all authentic. Since this Snow Miku is limited, her price should be well above what this seller has for anything else they sell. Even at second-hand shops like Mandarake, Snow Miku doesn't go for much lower than 7,000¥.
- "100% BRAND NEW" or "NEW IN BOX" does *NOT* mean "authentic." Those just mean exactly as it says. New. That's how many bootleggers skirt around the fact that the item is not authentic, but really a brand new bootleg so you are getting as you were advertised. Especially at places like eBay, make sure the listing says "AUTHENTIC."
Just because the seller is from China doesn't mean you should avoid ALL sellers from China. There are a few authentic Chinese sellers, too. Just do your research. Do listings specifically say "authentic item"? Are the prices "too good to be true"? Is X item known to have a lot of bootlegs? Don't forget to scrutinize feedback, too. Just "thanks" is not enough, but some buyers may state whether this seller sells the real thing or not.
You cannot expect bootlegs to be as ugly as, say, "Sader" these days. They're getting good at replicating products to be as close to the real thing as possible. From your pictures, the color of her joints look off and should match the color of Miku's skin.
Sorry to hear you got a bootleg of Snow Miku, though. I have her, but I lost her base so I forget what her base actually says.

Eh, not quite. They are getting pretty decent at paint job and molding plastic. But toxic fume from the plastic (most likely not even 100% PVC) they use, poor joint/peg still doesn't justify it. Even from pure consumer point of view, it is not worth the money even if it only cost you your lunch money.
I was only saying that from an aesthetic point of view and basically from what I see online. I've never had the experience of getting a bootleg so I don't know what it smells like or how it feels in my hands or putting one together compared to the authentic one.
I just know that some people simply write off bootlegs as "so ugly you could tell just by looking at it with your eyes closed."
Images they use online is also another deceiving tactic. Most of times they just use official sample pictures and since they are sample and it doesn't necessary mean it is going to reflect "actual" product so they can get away with it. I don't have personal experience with fakes either but I read enough about it :p
Actually, I've mostly gone off of pictures actual collectors have posted of bootlegs they have purchased and/or received. I don't look much at pictures sellers use unless I'm directed to look at them since they are more or less the same pictures from other sellers of bootlegs.
Usually listings of fake copies avoid the use of terms like "authentic" or "genuine", and don't even mention the manufacturer's name.
Or give the manufacturer's name but not in full. You'll often see GoodSMILE or Good Smile or some other variation.
That part is kind of confusing, but you can be certain when the seller doesn't mention its authenticity.
i know how you feel, when you recive a fake figure, worst feeling ever (have kagamiku fake from internet shop), from that time i buy figures from japan stores eg. Amiami or Jlist
Fake...
you're not alone buddy. i just bought a shana nendoroid which i immediately realized as fake as soon as i unwrapped the packaging and saw the box. when you're a regular nendoroid purchaser, you develop the eye for determining whether the figure is authentic or just a pathetic copycat.
oh yeah, i got the nendo from a vendor listed on amazon. tsk tsk...
I bought a fake miku for teh lulz

altho i do have real ones.

My 1st nendo (yes. I have a nendo) is a birthday gift from a friend, who apparently not into anime/manga/v-game & etc. She (yes, a girl) got me Saber Lily, which technically make this as my 1st figure (long before my Figuarts Another Agito. No surprise here when I found out that it's a fake. I can't blame her for not knowing. I still kept the figure with me though as it is the only memento I had from her.
Hopefully you learned your lesson! be careful next time. But don't feel too bad- now you have a fake nendo. I suggest you have fun making some sort of custom with it. Even if you completely screw up- it really doesn't matter! Why don't you try to rip one of the twintails off & create a Neru?
Do more research into your purchase next time... it's annoying knowing that every sale to a bootlegger leads to more bootlegs being produced. :(
Someone already mentioned this, but the price is one of the biggest hints of a fake. Snow Miku was a limited/exclusive that, if real, would be around $100. Fake nendos are usually around $10.
One of the clubs on myfigurecollection.net offers a list of all the fake nendoroids out there (as fakes were not made for every nendo). http://myfigurecollection.net/club/2/&page=discussions&did=51 This is the link, but you need to be a member of the site and club to see it. Hope that helps in the future! And I'm sorry you had such a bad experience TT
I'm sorry to say that this is indeed a knock off. Chinese Nendoroid knock offs usually have shiny paint with scratches and errors (I can't see the pic good enough to see scratches, but the paint is much too shiny) The real Nendoroids have smoother paint colors
For those saying that you can tell a knock off from a real by simply looking if the package or stand says "Made in China", please note that Nendoroid figures, both real and fake, are all made in China.
I am soooo sorry about your figure; next time, try emailing the seller for more pictures of the figure. Sometimes it may help
got my fake kaga miku from ebay as well... it killed me when i found out... now i won't buy anime figures from e-bay
LoL as soon as i saw the peg for the head i was "yup fake"
But getting fake figures isn't all that bad. They can be used to make custom figures for practice. I've met a few ppl who do that and getting cheap parts to work with helps when your rdy to build a real one.
I've been unlucky to get some fake figures and i still have them. But i use ebay as a last resort when i'm looking for things.
Luckily no one has bootlegged the Busou Shinki line as far as i know yet. But it is to bad that your 1st neno was fake but over time you can spot them.
I've heard this by others, too. There should be copyright of Crypton or something similar on it. Good smile are very quality oriented.
it's a darn fake, dude.
they only credited china on the base. therefore: china=bootleg
Syth dood,
I pity you too,
next time if you need stu9ff from E Bay,
try get it from Japanese sellers,
at least,
I think that they'll sell original since GSC Nendoroids are from japan,
am I right?
