Sealants for faceups?

As a few may know, I intend to paint my own faceup for my HD003 Dollfie (again, if I'm able to obtain an HD004!), but this is a slow/on-hold process because I've only recently gotten out of high-school, and don't have a job or anything XD I went to the store to look for sealant, today, and I wasn't sure of what kinds are okay to use on the type of material Dollfie Dreams are made out of. I know Mr. Super Clear is a valid brand, but I'd like to be spared from Volks' expensive shipping costs XD

In essence, what reacts (positively? or) negatively with Dollfies? A fair amount of fixatives I found had acetone in them, which...sounded like a "no" XD

Can anyone recommend what -should- or -shouldn't- be in a fixative for it to be safe to use on a doll?

(also, are normal pastels and acrylic paint okay to use for the faceup?)

    That's the stuff...ZoukeiMura UV Cut. Just make sure you spray it in light, even coats. Get clumpy with it and it will look like there's white powder on your Yukino's skin.

    Actually there is a great article on DIY Dollfie Dream customization on the blog on the Volks site. Lemme get that URL for you...here we go...

    Follow Dandy's directions and you'll be golden. You don't necessarily need to use Volks' stuff...you might be able to get away cheaper if you go places like Michaels for acrylic paint and chalk pastels. But you need to have a coat of sealant down before you do ANYTHING on that head. Otherwise you can't fix your mistakes. You need to seal the surface of the vinyl before doing ANYTHING. ANYTHING.

    When I made my Manami, I bought the Volks UV cut Sealant, and was glad I did. It was cheaper to get a hold of than the Mr. Super Clear UV cut, and readily available. In order to get past the Volk shipping issue... you have to make the shipping work for you! As in buy multiple things you need plus the sealant from Volks, in order to make the shipping worth it. That is what I do.

    mmm usually for sealant I can say Mr.Super Clear Flat (not the gloss one..unless you want its shiny lol) or Clear UV cut. Best choice really as one can could last you for up to 5 times face up? (or maybe more can't be certain but it depends)

    ahahaha ^^;

    Just as a "non dollfie owner" I'm gonna ask a silly-assed question: Would the same masking/painting/coating you do on your DD's faces help the rest of their bodies from getting stains by dark materials??

    Just a thought........

      That's a good idea, but i haven't heard of anyone else doing a treatment like this to their dollfie in order to prevent staining aside from the body stocking. Could possible give this a try since i ordered two sealants.

    The material DDs are made of is a type of vinyl, so if the sealant is matte and says it's safe for vinyl, you'll probably be okay. As a note though, Testors Dullcoat is NOT safe for vinyl, though it only says so in some rather fine print. ^^; If you use that on a DD or a My Little Pony or any other vinyl item, the stuff never cures and stays sticky.
