Tommy's sandy workspace while deployed in Iraq ^^
Name: Tommy Eastwoo

Any messages: Currently I'm deployed to Iraq for the 2nd time. I've always been interested in Japan and DC's site is a inspiration that keeps me motivated here. While here, I've been teaching myself Japanese, HTML and photoshop. This deployment has made me realize what I want to do for the rest of my life and that is web design and just be happy in Japan, doing what I love to do, like art, photography. One day, I will be like Danny and live in Japan ^^

My workspace, technically its my study space & relax space. My workspace is combating terrorists.

HP netbook comes in real handy when I'm always on the move, note the broken pair of Beats headphones behind it D:

If u can't tell, I still have the original plastic covering on my iMac and keyboard, not that I'm asian like that but it's to prevent all the dust that gets in here ^^ also have a fan for the iMac and ps3 as to cool off the heat that comes in through the tent walls.

I go through a lot of dust wipes, dusters and all kinds of wipes as I take care of my electronics & stuff everyday. An old Army saying, "take care of your equipment and your equipment will take care of you."

Luckily there's a library on base, some are my personal books, in which I'm studying web design and Japanese on my down time here.

Not only is it my first Mac but it's my first desktop ever and bought it online while here in Iraq of all places :D

My iPad came in the other day after submitting some of the pics above :D

iPad is amazing, lots of cool apps. Comes in a lot more handy than the netbook when I'm on the move.

and I hope I get in the Magazine.

The soldier from the unit I relieved hooked me up with his chair, Desk, power-strip, converter, and TV among some of the things I got for free. I bought the PS3 here at the PX and ordered the iMac to practice my photoshop skillz ^^

I never wanted the iPad, but then a month ago my iTouch took a crap on me. I mailed it to Apple with the online workorder since it was still under warranty, they would'nt fix it coz they found a small trace of liquid in the headphone jack. o.O
so I bought the iPad and i must say it's much much more than just a big iTouch.

Hey Tommy, nice to meet you :)
is the iMac issued? lol sorry prob stupid question. Great to read that you are spending the time learning and know what you want to do. Also thank you for what you are currently doing . My brother has been to Iraq 3x maybe 4... who knows, he's one of those BIG birds in that other Corp.
Hey best of luck!
Hey, JB, Thank you for ur comment. Yea, my 1st deployment in 2004 I didn't teach myself a thing. I was in college before this deployment I'm on now and still didn't know what to do as a career, but this deployment has made me realize what I want to do and what I needed to prioritize.
my photo of my transformer as my desktop background
I love Ps3, I'm about to beat Valkyria Chronicles, such a awesome game.
iPod shuffle had to get coz my iTouch broke down from sand I think. I've lost this little thing so many times tho lol
TV was given to me for free from the unit I came to replace ^^
Koss portapro headphones, google best headphones and you'll see them in the top 5, the best part is they're under $30.
haha, I know, that's the first that I thought when I saw them!!!, was planning to buy them a year ago, but wanted a little bit more, choose the Ath-m50s from Audio Technika, best monitor headphones you will ever get for less than 100 bucks!!
Dr. Dre Beats Solo headphones broke at the head band. I don't recommend buying these as they're expensive yet cheap, if that makes any sense.
All my anime figures are at home kept safe til I return, for now I have a Camel from a gift shop in Kuwait.
my anime figures are home safe til I return. Here's a Camel tho
fan keeping the heat off and the machines cool.
must haves even if u dont have computer or electronic equipment. Good for shelves, bed, books, dvd's.
Didn't really need this book, but I did learn a couple things from it.
Good book to learn HTML, CSS and xhtml.
Yeah I got this one also :) Truly a good book indeed
awesome book if you're like me and just getting into web design.
ordered this off Amazon, but wont get into it until I'm done with the html book.
haven't read as much as I'm using the army's rosetta stone and my audio Pimsluers lesson I have on my iPod.
have a few nice smelly things as i room with couple other not so nice smelly guys lol
thats my bed behind me.
my old Hawaii beach towel. I used to be stationed on Oahu, Hawaii. I miss it a lot. A lot of Japanese tourists go there.
Hawaii's a nice place to be stationed, pity there aren't many jobs though....
wow compare to the marine you guys really got so much place :p
internet from satellite ???
Internet from a tower thats supplied on base, but not as fast as home. Dont depend on it when theres a dust storm either D: but better than no internet in ur own tent compared to when i was here 4 years ago.
Haha stay safe and strong. before you know it you'll be back home
thank you ^_^
Cool room, I can't believe that's in a deployed camp! I never had a room like that when I was deployed XD
well, I guess once u start getting up there in rank, ur room gets a little better. Its actually a tent, I share it with 2 other soldiers, kinda have our own corners.
yup, Army invested in a lot of money the whole 8 years this wars been going on, but honestly, the 8 years weve been here it hasn't improved much at all with the exception that now you can get internet in your tent, thats if you base has the capabilities to do that, and A/C. It's actually not as nice as you think... really. XD
Wow, I never knew that the army actually were allowed to have an almost normal room while deployed. I guess it's something I've never really thought about. Considering you're in the middle of Iraq your room is pretty sweet. ^_^
yea, a lot has changed since about 5 years ago when I was last here. America has 8 freagin' years in the conflict and some things have improved greatly, however a lot of things have gotten crappier. No matter how much you polish poop, it's still poop. lol btw, u should see the AirForce, I'm in the ghetto compared to the flyboys.
The author of these php books is really cool, I have talked to him online at his forums. That was back a while though.
Larry Ullman is his name (I had to go look at my copies). I also use VQS CSS, DHTML & Ajax 4th edition by Jason Cranford Teague. The CSS part of the book is worth it, but honestly at work I google what I need and it's faster. But at home I have time for the books.
