MG Zaku II Grey Ogre

Posted by Wolfman-X

Heya guys. Just completed my Zaku II a few days ago. Had to choose between this or the Gn-X i had in queue but after some diliberation with a fellow gunpla enthusiest i ended up choosing the Zaku II since " we are in dire need of more grunts!"

Anyway my objective when building this kit was to better my painting ability with acrylics since ive started using them on my Black Wolf Unicorn Gundam and im starting to like the outcome of acrylics over enamels which have been my main use of paints during my gunpla building. Also a few other objectives for me was to try and make minor battle damage, drybrushing as well as weathering which would be my first time doing on an MG kit. Ive tried some weathering on one of my HGGSD kits to see how it could looke when applied. but during that time i was a complete noob and chucked out the instructions which came with the weathering kit

So I ended up buying another set which i didnt have to make sure i use that as future reference as I tend to forget what to do at times. Onto the Zaku II have completed I think

Paints I used were flat red ( tamiya) for the missile shells, codex grey over the original white parts, chaos black for the black parts, and mithril silver as well as boltgun metal for the damaged areas and drybrushing on the weapons( those who are into warhammer 40k would know these paints)

I didnt want to panellined the Zaku II since I wanna let the shadows do the job of showing those panellines as well as any dents, marks and grooves and I think it keeps it sorta realistic.

Anyway hope you guys enjoy. comments and criticisms are appreciated :)

Finally I see this bad boy.

Oh lol I thought all the pics we're in black-n-white. XD Prolly too monochromatic for my taste but that's me.

I think some of the parts are a bit too clean. I can see the dents and scratches but some discoloration or washout would really make it pop and realistic. The weapons are very nicely done. You should tried doing that sorta effect on the side of the foot and lower leg armor.

All in all, good build. Nice detailing. Needs a bit more detailing or maybe its just the color scheme dulling out the effects.

ill be working on the detailing sometime this week. need the kit ready for the model expo next week. youre right though, the majority of the model does look clean. might tackle the drybrushing on the armor parts.

Love the bullet damages in particular...good job man! I think an enamel wash would make this look more weathered. nyways, keep it up! ;D

So far looks good. Weathering is hard to do. I think he could use a bit more wash... maybe on certain places of the armor (make it look dirty, but hard to tell on Gray. Maybe add some rust here and there.

I have yet to try my hand at weathering any of my kits (although I paint every one of them). I am only willing to try it on cheap kit first.

Good weathering. The colouring has a little too much gray for me though.
Are you going to panelline it?
