Yay you dusted her off! hehe, as for the advice you're welcome =) I'm glad I was able to help someone on here ^_^b

As for your photos, you've got overexposure in a lot of areas resulting in a loss of detail, I can see the type of shot you want to achieve, maybe try putting your camera in macro mode, it will allow detailed close up shots of Haruhi, as for changing the F stop on your D5000, thats something you'll have to read on your manual since I'm a Canon user xD

Keep it up! everyone started at one point, and you're off to a good start =)

Yesh i did manage to dust her off x] Lets see now, how to solve the over exposer problem? ^^; Said macro mode but i cant seem to adjust the brightness when in macro mode. And as for the F-stop, googled it (should've done that from the start xD) and now i know how to adjust - i think i got an idea on how to use/take advantage of that function but did you have anything special in mind? (Btw, it was as easy as simply turning the nob when in P mode xD). Thanks again so much for the help x]

You can also try setting the exposure compensation "Lighten/Darken [+/-] Button" right below the shutter release. You simply hold the button and spin the rear dial to adjust it. "+" makes the photos brighter and "-" makes it darker. And of course you can boost up the ISO as well, but anything beyond 1600 makes the images noisy.

Definitely much better, like night and day. Now I guess I need to quit procrastinating and do some studying on the rule of thirds myself!!

    Great Job!!.

Big improvement from your first post - good job. I thought I'd mention a site that has some good critique videos. It's from a pro photography called Zack Arias.

    http://www.zarias.com/critique-episode-01/

His critiques review other photographers websites to see give them advice about getting ready to turn pro, it's very interesting and he's always laying out great advice to help the photographers. It's worth checking out.

By the way, I used the video called "Perfect Exposure for Digital Photography" by Tim Cooper to get a grasp on controlling Exposure. The video is a little boring but it will make you feel you fully understand how to control exposure on your camera.
