I don't know if I should be happy or sad now that mainstream media is adopting cosplay O_o
When things like this happens here in the Philippines there's bound to be some effect on the otaku community local here due to some actors/artists doing this and that with their cosplayed character T_T
I don't know what to say.
that seemed so wrong in many levels...
I don't think why this would make us Filipinos happy or proud... Here's my say - my opinion.
I've adopted Anime into my life SO EASILY because it is an uncommon thing among children and teens nowadays. Infact, even sometimes ridiculed. I'm the kind of person who likes something uncommon and new - something that not much people do, so much that even in Anime selection, I prefer series which are not seen by many people. And I do not brag about it. I do not stand in front of the whole class and shout, "I'm an otaku!" Instead, I keep it to myself and I could care less about how much or how least of my friends know that I'm an otaku. It's a hobbby, an interest, not a personality I'd like to be stamped on my name.
Exposing such a culture or interest in mainstream Filipino Media disappoints me VERY VERY much that I think Anime is now turning into my frustration instead of my interest. We know that such culture is not widely accepted by many teens, and instead of Anime mainstream, it had been more and more ridiculed and instead of being accepted with open arms, I believe it's running towards the same list as the words "Jologs, Corny, Waste of Time" and such...
Well, this is my opinion.
Well, cosplay might not be the best side to step into japano-culture from, but nevertheless it's nice that there's a chance to promote it, don't you think?
Personally I don't have a much of a problem with others knowing that I'm an otaku, although I don't run around shouting it out loud either ;) It's my hobby, so people should have tolerance for it the same way they do towards other hobbies. Being self-confident about it also helps - people won't even try to ridicule it, if they see that you have no problem taking a joke or two about it.
Seeing this kinda reminds me on that Shana cospa by pro models on Animax Asia... which for me, didn't fit to be cosplayers.
