模写

Posted by Haku1923 [www]

I promised AnimeAffection and Kreigmark2 or nightmarejan(?) weeks ago so here it is.

well...I drew these when I started to draw approximately a year ago but didn't exactly created them if you know what I mean^^;
I'm not familiar with the terminology in English but in Japanese it is called a "模写" (mosha) which is supposed to mean ~to replicate the original illustration but without tracing it, and from my experience a good way to learn how to draw.

Although its rather dull trying to get everything to look the same you kind of get the sense of where to locate the facial parts, the overall balance of a character and also get an inspiration as to how you are going to start drawing your own characters from scratch. I haven't improved much but fundamentals are most important I think^^;

and as expected some images are not showing up again^^;
Mirai-tan must be slacking off.....

    cant quite remember this but ok xD sketches are nice nice nice nice (especially the vocaloid one)also started out copying styles of other mangakas but in the end it helped a lot on your way to developing a style ^^ and yes fundamentals such as the proportions of the face are more essential than detail (>w<)b keep on truckin!

    btw me and Kriegmark2 are one person xD didnt no you could use your dc acc in fig fm xD

      oh that's all right^^; Twas weeks ago and might not even have been a promise come to think about it.
      Anyhow this is my version of the history of artwork post and I see you took similar steps on your way to become a illustrator. Curious to know what mangaka helped you gain your style but guessing from the numbers your artwork it must be tons^^;

    "to replicate the original illustration but without tracing it, and from my experience a good way to learn how to draw." its called referencing, and many people can't comprehend what's the difference between copycat and referencing, ending up both in the same meaning of tracing

    ok sorry for talk too much, just disappointed with people and trolls nowadays
    anyways nice drawings, there are some minor mistakes but overall they are all right

      ahh...referencing
      That's the word I was looking for^^;
      In the very beginning I too didn't exactly know the difference tracing and referencing but now that I think about it am glad that I took the latter as my method of practice.

      yep, bits of mistakes here and there. Some things you just don't notice until after a while^^;

          Gave a few thoughts about that when I was looking for these files but probably not.
          I lose interest in my past works or materials pretty quickly^^;

    Wow, good work. I once tried to draw some DBZ characters, but even *with* tracing they didn't look anything like the picture ^^;;;

      Thanks^^
      DBZ characters are kind of hard to imitate aren't they? With those pointy noses and awkward jaw angle.
      I wouldn't blame you at all^^;

        Well, I'm not that good at it so I would find them as difficult as any other manga/anime character methinks. The main problem was getting their mouths/eyes to look right so they actually looked cool instead of retarded :P

        I'm more of a perspective/landscape drawing person I guess ^^;

          It may sound presumptuous of me to say this but…. if you want to learn to draw you shouldn’t run away from it by saying what “type” of artist you are. Heck, the first character I drew didn’t even look like a human being^^;

          Don’t give up!^^

    Wow these are pretty good ^^ I like the miku ones and horo-tan looks cute ^^ I also started out copying but I literally bought clear paper and traced (though I was 6-7 when I did this and I traced pokemon xD) The more characters/whatever you copy, the more you familiarize yourself with how this should look or where something goes, or this needs to be bigger/smaller and that will effect your own characters looks and you'll be come better at drawing ^^ My theory is: the more you draw, the better you'll be at drawing (something I just now started practicing xD)

      Thanks~

      lol, I too remember drawing pokemon as a kid but never went as far to buying a clear paper to make it perfect^^; Back then all I drew was landscapes or still life which really didn’t contribute to character drawing I’ve started a year ago.
      Guess if you wanted to improve there is no detour^^;

      Good luck in your practice^^b

    Nicely done mate... and yeah, referenceing is a pretty good way of getting structure down.

    I dunno, I find that just looking through art books and stuff helps a lot too. Just you'll look at a picture and something will click "oh hey, so that's how you get that to work." Then you can integrate that into your own style.

      Thanks Alfisti^^

      And yeah looking through art-book of other illustrators is also a good way to gain inspiration. Were they a bit less costly I might consider buying more but as for now pixiv and deviant art is enough^^;

    Mosha is very good for building hand to eye coordination. I think drawing from scratch is the best way to get your mind to understand the lines and facial placement. Yes, it may be a bit difficult to perfect but it makes your mind think. You'll naturally be able to process the drawings faster as you progress. You may also find your original unique style =)

    Keep up the good work and try out different methods. I'll be looking forward to seeing your next work. ^^

      Indeed^^;

      It was only later in the year that I found out that drawing from scratch was the only way for one to develop their real ability. The quality difference between the moshas I did and the drawings I did from scratch was……well seriously depressing^^; Moshas are good but that alone will not help you draw and for that reason I haven’t done them in months.

      Might have some time to draw now that summer break is finally here^^
