Afraid Of Good Smile Company!!
My last article here was about how terribly smells my Hatsune Miku Figure.
Last night before I went to bed, I forgot to open my window for fresh air, and today I'm feeling dizzy and have an alergic reaction, I think that I have been poisoned by smell.

My father went crazy when he woke up me, As he said, my room's air was terribly toxic. ><
As I mentioned earlier, my figure is not a bootleg one, I bought it ar Amiami.
P.s. I went to Good Smile Company web-site to inform about this, but could not find their contact mail ^^'

So now reason of this post.
I really like design of Dead Master, and I'm confused, Should I pre-order her? I really don't want to throw away my money if it will smell the same :/

ahahahahaha o wow. here we go again
umm, what do you mean? ^^'
If you think that I'm paranoid, I must tell you that I own more than 60 figures and none of them has this kind of smell :/
The 60 figures don't enter into it, my lad. The title of yer post is "Afraid of GSC". Fear is part of paranoia.
Are your figures exposed under ultraviolet rays (sunlight) or is your room temperature too warm/hot?
No, No and again No :D I keep all my figures in glass case and temperature here is pretty cool. I hate sunlight that's why I have huge curtains to hide myself In darkness XD
Just air out the figure if it has that smell. You can do this by placing it near an open window for a few hours. You can shorten this time by having a fan blowing air from your room out of that window. Keep your door open or open another window (if you have one) to keep the air circulating.
all pvcs have the smell lol
i like to believe you have a small room?
cos i bought my world is mine from amiami too and the smell isnt there after displaying it in open air.
My Black Rock Shooter Blade Vers. also has that smell. I got her from HobbySearch, so it's not a bootleg either. Now my whole glass cabinet stinks. I feel you pain mate.
Even so, I still went ahead and pre-ordered Dead Master. She looks so awesome, it would be a pity to not get her xD
It might be that it's the general humidity of your area. But like you said, you own several other figures but they don't smell. Try this; seal up the figure in question with some charcoal or some de-humidifying agents like Silica gel. and see how it helps after 24 hours or so.
That's really odd. My room temp easily reaches 30 celcius but i have no such issues. I will most probably PO The Dead Master. There's also Dead Master Anime Ver. like BRS but it doesnt look attractive when compared to this D.M. original version.
Wonders whether GSC will release other character figures in BRS anime... I love the Dragon Slayer (http://blackrockshooter.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Slayer) and Maid Gunner (http://blackrockshooter.wikia.com/wiki/Maid_Gunner).
Check out all the characters, and imagine every one of them made into PVC, each 9,300yen, i'm gonna be broke.
http://blackrockshooter.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Characters
Whoops, copy the dragon slayer and maid gunner links without the closing bracket at the end if you want to see it... =.=
Seeing Matagi get the PVC treatment would be pretty cool. :3 Though all 10 would be even more cool... <3
For your case, It's Good Smell Company... xD
lawls, I already pre-ordered her right when it announced on hobby search
hmmm i think you prolly just got a bad batch ... since my dosent smell and if you do preorder dead master it would have to be really bad luck for you to get another smelly one as the chances are prolly really low
I agree with Kuraishi. It sounds like there may have been a problem when making the material to cast that one figure and it has too much of one chemical or material and that's causing the smell. Forget the comments about being paranoid, if you have 60 figures you know what the "normal smell" should be.
My best advice is to put it in an area that's not going to affect you for a few weeks and see if the problem clears on it's own. It may take time but should eventually stop producing the smell. Don't let one bad experience ruin your chance to get a cool new figure. :D
+1... i dont have that problem with my Hatsune Miku The World is Mine... im fine with her and dont smell bad :S
I really want her, but i think i'll be getting something else, i'm kind of reluctant on getting Statues and busts as i'm afraid of the little grubby hands that will break them because they thought it was able to move.
Try giving your figures a wash with some water with a drop or 2 of washing up liquid. the smell could be from the release agent used to remove the figure from the molding machines. it's usually a thin oil like substance, so the washing up liquid will help remove that.
but use an unscented liquid, otherwise every figure will be smelling of Lemon/Apple/whatever else and that could be more overpowering a smell than this 'toxic' smell
What is funny is I view the fresh smell of a pvc figure out of the box as a good thing. The smell means "I got a new figure that just came in and I waited months for it." "This is it's Virgin Unboxing." "After enduring months of delays, the figure is finally here." And the smell is part of that celebration. Open a bottle of tequila and make a toast to your new figure.
The smell of a fresh pvc figure. Feels good man.
Totally agree with you on that one. I'm a sad panda once the smell is gone. ;-;
It shouldn't smell as strongly or as long as seems to have been described here, and it is toxic after all so more than normal probably isn't a good thing.
Agreed, nothing like the smell of a new figure~
Smell of chlorine?
Ok here's one tip that can definitely get that stink out of the figures.
Get a pail and fill it with water near the brim. Next, turn that water into a soapy water and what i can recommend for you to use is Dove Soap. It has milk mixed into it and is delicate not only on skin but on figures as well. Leave your figure there for 5-10mins. Afterwards rinse it with cool water. Do this twice or thrice a week and that smell will be gone.
Really? My room is filled to the brim with plastics and PVC of all type, shape and color. Since I've become a Hikikomori after I graduated from High School/Junior College, I've hardly left my room and I'm perfectly fine...
I believe I know what smell you mean. There's the normal plastic smell from most PVC products and then there's one that's much rarer and crazy toxic. The normal smell is fine since it just smells like new plastic. The only experience I've had with the super toxic smell is with my Ryouko Asakura Bunny made by FREEing (which I believe is one of GSC's subsidiary companies) http://www.goodsmile.info/product/en/543/Ryouko+Asakura+Bunny+Ver.html and it REEKED of toxicity when I opened the packaging. It had nothing to do with temperature, humidity, sunlight, etc. and I know for sure it wasn't a bootleg because I bought it from HobbySearch. I didn't sleep in my room for a whole week until the smell dissipated! It was a very strong, sharp, chemical smell that was nauseating to be around for any amount of time. I can't believe you SLEPT in a room with such a poisonous smell. You could have been in some serious trouble. Keep in mind that most of the PVC toys made for Japan are manufactured in China and who knows what kinds of chemicals are in them! Leave the figure some place where it can get some air to lose the smell (preferably a room that no one uses) for about a week. The smell will go away, but don't ever put yourself in that kind of danger again. :( If you still feel ill now, you may need to go see a doctor. Better safe than sorry.
well, you try casing them in an almost airtight transparent container. like the ones i use for my figures. keeps the fresh plastic smell intact as well keeps the dust away.
I'm not doubting what your saying but I think there is something in your room causing this to happen. I'm sure, we would have heard a complaint like this from any other figure collector out there with one of there figure's and this is a first for me...
I do believe there's a good possibility that your next door neighbors could be running a Meth lab out of there home and the toxic fumes seemed to have made its way through your windows a nestled around Miku this is the only conclusion I have come to... Tell your neighbors to refrain from using toxic chemicals as it is doing some serious damage to you anime figure's and making you think bad thoughts of good smile company,, LOL this is a joke by the way dont take it to serious.
..........................................................................................................................................................................................
but seriously talk to your neighbors......
And pre ordered this just to likable masterpiece figure.......
If your Hatsune is still bothering you, and you've read my comments in your previous post about her, the only suggestion I can give now is TopCoat, and hoping that it will seal off the smell of the figure.
Yours is a problem I haven't heard before... but hey, don't let it ruin your AnimeCollecting life! XD
my latest figure Index from GSC have that smell when i opened the box, but the smell went away in about 15/20 minutes
must all that PVC smell~ you must have your door closed 24/7 as well as windows?

Please everyone here take note that out gases from PVC is hazardous.. I just started collecting and I did some research PVC cute little figures are made from the most dangerous poisonous plastic on the planet. In the manufacturer it released dioxins the most lethal chemical ever analyzed on the planet. The outgassing smell this cannot be good for you. Personally you will see in the future we've been ripped off. These products that are so lovely should have been made out of a safer product instead of giving us poisonous figurines from hell. I really feel sorry For the persons that can smell this gas release. I have found no real way to deodorize Yet. It's quite possible it will be Out gassing its lifetime. learn about your PVC figures and realize they're using the worst chemical plastic the most toxic waste Imaginable. We're being ripped off..And your health is at risk
Could possibly be the temperature of your room causing the figure to "stink". My miku has a slight rubberish paint smell but my nose ain't that good hahaha.
then its not their fault if you didn't air your room.
zzzz.
/facepalm.jpg
time to build airtight glass case?
Before your case, I had never heard of issue like this. Therefore, I believe that the problem with your Deadmaster is an extremely rare occurrence and it is highly unlikely you encounter a figure with the same issue again.
I have quite a few GSC figures and none of them have had this problem.
Far as contacting them goes, not sure what to tell you. Maybe try tweeting them? Or maybe try contacting AmiAmi since that is where you got the figure from. I got a figure from Hobby Search once that arrived damaged and they compensated me for it.
I've never had this problem, despite not being able to have an open window most of the year thanks to the temperature.
It could just be a faulty item, maybe try contacting amiami instead.
If your figure has a smell THAT strong I think it's a factory defect.
risk it all and buy that cool figure ! !
i hope to never experience smelling of those toxic material in my room, especially from my figures
D:
My nendoroid Miku stinked too, but then again it is a bootleg, but the smell gradually decreased... I suggest contacting GSC like you did.
I had their e-mail once, but I can't find it now :/
These are their official distributors though:
http://www.goodsmile.info/post/en/2089/Good+Smile+Company+Official+Distributors.html
Maybe you can e-mail one of the them and they could forward the message to GSC, even if they might now e-mail you back.
Good luck!
I love dead master!! You must order this one because it's worth it, i tell you..
But if that's the case, I should advise to put a handful of "COAL" beside the smelly figurine for like a week, the coal itself will absorb any odor.
You may just be allergic to the paint they use or even the type of pvc they use .....it's hard to say have you gotten an allergen test ..... If it's that bad I suggest just stop buying from GSC
These lovely cute adorable figurines have a secret called toxic outgassing.. and if you throw it in the fire and take a few deep breaths you will be a goner as it will release dioxins as I already said they are the most lethal chemical poisons recorded on the planet.. don't burn them... don't touch them and touch your Mouth. These products cannot even be disposed of. Check that out. If you're beautiful figurine hits the recycling department it will destroy over 10,000 containers making them useless as toxic waste. So don't read the fumes they give never throw them in fire if you do run like hell. they should have been made safe. Spread the word and they won't have any choice but to change the materials. So stop buying them and spread the word.. hopefully when you do start up again you will have nontoxic lovely beautiful figurines.. not these sick toxic Poisonous things we own today.
Don't take my word for it to your research.
This may seems like an old post but I came across it again while trying to find more information on the smell. PVC is a toxic material and I keep all my figures in a glass case. I have it right beside my desk and just today I kept getting this awful scent. It smells like PVC. Anyways, I went over to the case and it serious reeked. I am not sure if it's the temperatures fault because it have been getting kind of warm. I live upstairs too and the heat drifts upwards making my top floor an instant heater.
I really love GSC's work but if this continues I might have to sell off all of them. I will try using a box of baking soda to see if that helps with the smell.
