Thoughts on Durarara!!

... wow... I mean, wow!

Wow!

ok, so on to a spoiler free comment on the series.

Durarara!! has blended elements of myth and reality into what I believe is a perfect mix of action and comedy with just a hint of mystery. The series does a good job of throwing you a curve ball every once in a while, all the time developing its non-cookie cutter characters. Alternating between the standard "4th wall" telling of animes and the narration episodes I thought was a clever way to add to the development of the characters and explain certain aspects that would eat up a lot of time other wise. The art quality stayed consistent throughout the series and made for some stunning fight and chase scenes. The fluidity the characters moved with in some of the comedy scenes only added to the enjoyment of the moment. I also feel the music was well placed throughout the series as it seemed to always fit with what was going on at the moment (some times to rather hilarious ends).
I can't think of anything else I can write without giving away bits of the plot, so I'll leave it up to you guys now. But first, after watching the whole series I can say that my favorite character is Simon.
Who is your favorite character?

It's basically about a day and the life of the Ikebukuro's underworld. It is very good, and it got me to read the novels.

Izaya is my favorite by far. I've always loved the chessmaster/manipulative characters. One of my favorite scenes of him is when he starts cackling out loud: "Humans are so interesting."

The way he says it gives the appearance that he thinks he's above 'humans'. Even Shizuo screams his name.

Have not watched this series but keep hearing great things about it... I'm totally intrigued by the headless biker with the cat ear helmet, reminds me of the Sleepy Hollow story <_< .

this is one of those anime i just enjoy watching without having a particular favorite character.

the characters are great though, which makes this show worth watching in the first place.

still gotta watch the final episode~

I liked Durarara but the level varies at different times. The show instantly captures attention and only gets more interesting when you keep finding out who's who and who did what do make that happen. But things kind of slowed down near the end when the surprises are not as extreme as the earlier ones. I was hoping to get the satisfaction from the last episode of Baccano where everything was moving at lightening speed. But didn't get it...

    Izaya is the man!

well, we certainly hope there is a bit more... I mean, Bacanno put in another book (where the anime used to be just 1, 2, and 3). Durarara has 8 volumes, and it definitely covered 4 without trouble...
