masterclass monday~nightmare fuel

hello, kameraden! glad to say that amidst the cold weather here i managed to stir up a new piece which i worked on during free times^^ i'm pretty sure some folks here already saw this, but i added some subtle modifications to the final artwork until i was satisfied.

the techniques i found in the digital art mag was very stunning and interesting. it helped a lot since it takes out that tunnel vision that most artists find difficult to escape from.

you may remember the girl i posted quite a lot many aeons ago. this is kinda like a continuation of it. shes the heiress...of what? an abominable bloodline? a family of necromancers? or she mightve been an unborn child who died before she couled even "inherit" something. whatever she is, we know that shes not a being of human nature. that big guy behind her can also be a blood relative, brought back to life by some wicked form of science that only she knows. or even a nice pet to guard the lawn from annoying kids :p

sketch phase. well, ok not really a sketch but or a refined one yes. i do apologize since i forgot to save jpegs of the earlier stages.

manually cleand up the lineart, since handmade lines have more expression, unlike digital lines which are...bland and lifeless?

one more thing, always rotate/flip your sketches. it make you see imprefections in proportion, composition etc.

and skipped a stage again. me and my cmd+s disease >< before i got to this stage, i started out blocking in light and shadow, mening greyscale. always start in greyscale, which was stressed by the folks in Imagine FX. it makes shading easier and gets the values right. ive only started doing that recently cause before, i always started in color :p

and last stage, here, very subtle elements are added. if you look very closely there like a gothic pattern in her skirt and vest, not very noticeable but as long as the impression is there, it works xD also added a color dodge on top to bring out some lighting since i found the previous one a bit too dark.

almost flushed out most of detail which is not a good thing. here, more detail is noticeable but not entirely. i just feel that this is the right amount..not too striking and not too dark. also blurred some parts to soften it a bit and also dodged the eyes to make it more....notieceable. after all, i want the viewer to stare at her eyes...to a point that you cant unsee lol.

Digital and hand-drawn lines both have their strong points. Nice work!

agreed. digital lines are more for character pin ups and such. it can also depend on the application intended for the artwork too ^o^

    remind me of gorillaz ^^
and actually, you just need to make the skirt up a bit more and it'll look better
but in the colored version - it already looks perfect

yup^^. as you can see, stressing about getting things perfectly isnt so important as most people think xD. as long as you accomplish what you envisioned in the first place that is ;D
