The Unboxing of DD Fate ^_^

Posted by SleeplessOtaku [www]

Hello Comrades and Dollfie owners all over the globe, I finally was able to get some time this weekend and decided to unwrap my first daughter Fate. I had her for over a month now but I couldn't get off my busy schedule to do a review on it. So everything is close to perfect except the eyes which was kinda not lined up equally. First I had to melt the hot glue from the eye sockets then remove the glue while it's still warm then I had heard from people to use white poster tak but i didn't have white so I went with yellow. I'm not sure if i did it wrong or not but I can't seem to line the eyes closer to the middle and it always seem to slip to the edge. I got the feeling maybe the eye sockets aren't done right or maybe the eyes aren't the right size.

But anyways please welcome Fate-chan to her new home and enjoy the pictures I have taken so far. ^_^v ( sorry if the pictures don't look all pro and all, I just don't have a very good camera and don't have any room for a setting ^^; )

*Edited*
Some people tell me that the eyes are too far apart and it looks like she's looking at 2 different directions.
After further examination I think they're right. The reason I place her eyes this way was to eliminate the slight gap between her eyes and the eye socket but now I guess I don't mind the little gap.
Fate's eyes have been re-positioned, will post new pictures in a future post :)

Woah, did she come with that display case or was that a separate purchase?

The display case is separate, it's called the ExpoCases and you may order it from the following site: http://www.theearthtoymall.com/expocase.html

It's pretty cheap and durable for a decent case that looks very professional :D

Ah finally another dollfie owner that uses the expocases ^^
I got one for Rin a year ago and another for Nanoha when I got her. Excellent for keeping them dust free and easy to see ^^

Also, forgot to mention this but...
Expocases are cheaper from this site:
      http://www.finehomedisplays.com/products.asp?cat=25
For the largest size it is $38.89 at FHD compared to $44.16 at Earth Toy Mall.
Also shipping is only $12.99 at FHD compared to $23.87 at ETM. Both use UPS Ground. So a $16 difference ^^

Yeah, I should have left it alone in the first place, the putty thing is driving me nuts. But I managed to put her eyes back in the middle but with a tiny gap that you can see from the side of her eye sockets.

Yes it does look weird, but I spend hours trying to balance out her eye but they just wont stand in the middle without having spaces in the socket :( ..If I would take a pic from the side up close you can actually see openings which is kinda ignoring. So my choices is either like this or like both closer to the right / left. I have made adjustments again and moved 1 eye closer to her nose.

Congratulations! She's lovely. Do you have the same issues with her weaponry that Punyari did, though? I'm curious.

Congrats! She looks great, and I like the display case too. Is the plastic on the sides thin/flexible? Or rigid?

In case you want tips on the eyes, here's what I did for all of my DDs. I used white acid-free craft tack that I found at the craft store. I've heard that you can also use moldable silicone ear plugs, which are clear.

Instead of putting the craft tack on the eyes and then sticking the eyes in, I rolled the tack up into "worms." I put one worm on top of the eye hole and a thick, shelf-like worm on the bottom of the eye hole. Then you can rest the eyes on top of the shelf of tack and use the top bit of tack to help position them. I was able to make fine adjustments this way, and pop the eyes out or change the direction by millimeters. Once I was happy with the position, I then surrounded the eyes with more tack worms. By doing it this way -- applying tack to the head first, not the eye first -- I was able to really adjust them quite finely.

    Hope that helps!

The display case is thin, lightweight but pretty strong plastic layer and it folds into a book if you ever need to store it.

I have bad experiences with craft tack but moldable silicone ear plugs sounds great. How does that work and where can I find them? Thanks in advance. :)

I've seen them in drug stores here in Canada. They are sold for swimmers to put in their ears. Ask at your local pharmacy/drug store and see if you can find some.

Sorry you had such a problem with the craft tack. It really helps to apply it to the head first and then stick the eye in after.

do you know what size of this moldable silicone ear plugs i should buy or do they only come in 1 size? also how i apply it to the eye socket using glue or something?

I haven't tried them myself, but I think they are sticky like the putty, but clear. I think they come in one size.

I also saw some "Museum Putty" in an organization store yesterday (you know, the type of store that sells boxes and closet organizers). You could probably use that as well -- it's used to stick vases to tables and such so that they don't get knocked over.

            Good luck!
