Questions on Cosplay

Sorry for the three posts in one day ^^; But I have a few questions on cosplay.

I want to cosplay Murdoc Niccals from the Gorillaz (female or not, I WILL make this work), and while looking up the things I'd need, I found that most of the items were rather expensive @_@

So I was wondering, about how much does one normally spend on a relatively inexpensive cosplay? I don't exactly, y'know, have a job xD So paying for all these things is going to be difficult until I get one.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated ^_^

Nothing wrong with posting a lot :]

Anyways, If youre like me, ( I cosplayed as a Crazy 88 from Kill Bill) All i spent was 99 cents on a mask. If you plan on buying a fully made decent cosplay of something, it could get rather pricey. But if you get creative, you can save a lot of money. Ive seen a lot of handmade cosplay at expos and some turn out really good.

Unfortunately, I need contacts for this cosplay, since Murdoc has one red eye and one black >_< So that's about $150 right there X_X Then a couple more bucks for the shirt and cross necklace (and then taking time to invert it x3), then a bunch more for a wig and some Cuban heel boots. Then again, I may not need the boots, could just get some cheap black slip-on shoes. All I know is that I don't have a job, and it's gonna be over $200, likely x_x

you can get cheaper alternative contacts for less than $150
cosplaying is an expensive hobby after all^^" unless you can make your own clothes, etc.
        good luck with it

Hmm...do you know if those would be available in prescription for that cheap? I'm pratically blind without my glasses, and I plan on wearing this all on Halloween; don't think my boyfriend's gonna want to guide me around by the hand when I'm dressed like Murdoc XD

Ah ever heard of circle lenses? I heard they are cheap and you can get them with prescription as well. Circle lenses make your eyes bigger too^^" but are a cheaper alternative than contacts

Dang--they were such a great idea, but I don't think I can wear them because of my astigmatism x_x That and my parents aren't on board with it

Hmm, I'd classify an "inexpensive" cosplay for me at around $100-$150 if you are buying a wig.
If you are planning to do it cheaper, do your best to make it look accurate.

Yeah, contacts are pretty brutal...If you can get away with just wearing sunglasses or something, do that.

If you do plan on buying contacts, do research!!! Cheap contacts can seriously screw with your eyes, and some can cause permanent damage >_<

Yeah, I've figure that I'm gonna need some really specific ones, since I was just reminded by my friend while telling her all this that I have an astigmatism >_< I hate my freaking eyes XD

One of the reasons I'm staying away from contacts, at least until I find some good quality ones meant for cosplay.

I highly recommend sewing (or learning to sew) the costume together if you have the time. It saves money and, with experience, it'll look better and more custom fit than buying from online. ^^ Everyone was a beginner seamstress at some point; it takes practice and patience, but it will ultimately save you hundreds or even thousands. Plus you'll get more compliments and can enter more cosplay contests since you actually made it from scratch. ^^

The total cost for cloth should be from 10-20 dollars unless it's a really rare fabric. =)

      Thanks for the advice =3 I wish I could enter in cosplay contests, but I don't think there's anything remotely anime-related in my entire state, save my bedroom ;_;

Ehehe ^^; Nice idea, but I don't think that'd exactly be appropriate
