laptop refresh
greetings comrades!
i have not really posted anything since joining. so using my first post, i would like to share with you all my little project.
SHORT BACKGROUND:
i have a 3 year old laptop thats quite beat up. it has served me and my sisters well all these 3 years. and since all my sisters now have their own computers, i decided its time to breath some life into this old laptop.
so using my skills as a technician and some basic gundam painting skills i got years ago when i was still building gunpla, i disassembled the laptop and painted the lcd top/back cover, and the palmrest.
i was not really sure what to do since it would be my first time painting a laptop. i also wanted to make it an "itasha" laptop... so i had a few ideas and collected some pictures.
in the end i decided to go and use the psd files that danny posted on the mascot page. (btw: danny, i know its late and may not be needed, but i would like to ask for your permission to use those (mirai, haruka, kanata, the d logo and the dannychoo.com logo) images on my laptop. ^__^ thanks!)
so uhm. without further ado, here are the pics of my project. i apologize for the bad quality images. i only have my cam phone to use for now. and uhm.... oh im open to suggestions, tips, and critique about this work. i plan on doing something similar to my desktop case.

so these are the before pics. you can clearly see its all dirty and beat up. in fact its missing all its stickers now...

yep.. just the ubuntu sticker there

disassembled the whole thing. took 2 hours

LCD

sanded the palmrest too

filled some of the holes and the old logo with epoxy. then sanded it down

painted it white and added the stickers. then 3 coats of top/clear coat

hinge cover

its done!
and yeah... it says ubuntu on my stickers but i just can't let go of windows yet. i haven't found any open source software that can do what office onenote does for me in class.

before i forget, i would like to thank comrade winterheim for the dance trooper inside sticker. :D

finished back cover

Saying that that laptop is "quite beat up" might be the biggest understatement I've ever read. ^^;
haha! it had to endure 3 years of college and 4 kids fighting over the laptop. :D
Still, that's a lot of damage! You've done a great job cleaning it up though.
Wow that looks pretty awesome! I also want to personalize my gadgets, I just always forget lol ^^U
thanks!
That's a spot on job fixing up the case, really nice work.
thank you! ^_^
Looks great. Danny Choo would be proud.
thank you very much. and i do hope it makes him proud. haha!
Nice renovation.
The before pc looks as if its been through the battlefield or something^^;
thank you.
Looks good as new
!
wow, and i thought my laptop was dirty :)
you did an awesome job cleaning and painting it, but it would have been a lot better if you have used waterslide decals, have you heard of these?
yeah. but i had 2 problems. 1) could not find any yesterday. or at least decent ones. and 2) i don't really know how to use them. haha! but i'll take that into consideration for my next project. :D thanks!
Looks great I would be to scared to open a Laptop to do that. But that Laptop looks as good as new.
Nice cleaning!
I have an eight years old "Desknote" (A computer looks like a laptop, but uses as many desktop computers' parts as possible (like CPU and RAM) to reduce the cost and price. This concept died not long after its birth). I'm proud its condition is better than yours before cleaning, but I never be able to do such a awesome cleaning like you did.
Yay, KANATA!!
Great work! Is there a wallpaper of the sisters somewhere?
im not really good @ photoshop so i can't really make one. O_o and i've been looking for a wallpaper for 2 days.
Where did you get those Miku stickers and how much did it cost?
oh... uh... it didn't cost a penny... i searched it through google.
the dance trooper inside sticker though was from winterheim's blog.
just to make it clear, i printed those stickers and cut them out. ^_^
Ah, that's cool. I couldn't tell the difference.
