Figure.fm Top Page

There are a load of posts on Figure.fm every day and within the gems are a load of other gems which get buried quickly.
We do have the "popular" tab on the top page but I was wondering If we should split the left column into 2 and have "popular today" and "latest"

Still do plan to have "top contributors" ranking later on.

After the redesign of DC, FF needs one too but would like you to decide how you want it to be. Look forward to your feedback!

I like the idea of having 2 columns since its true that the post gets burried quite quickly.
Even tought the actually column is long. what about the space beneath the hobbyseach ranking?
maybe you can add something there.
either way i still like the current design layout =)

If go with two column layout, maybe do figure-related items on one side and non-figure on the other.

I'd like a way to filter for anything maybe more than ten years old. I'm primarily interested in stuff from the 80s, but also the 70s, and some series from the 90s. Most of the post-2000 stuff all looks the same to me, and so much of figure.fm just blends together, and I can't really pick out stuff I might interested in.

Would popular today also be a little quick? I wonder if maybe popular this week would be better? Either way, splitting it into two is a good idea.

Indeed, "Popular Today" would be a bit quick. I remember where an SD Mirai/Haruka used to have a word bubble showing what's popular within three days or so. Perhaps a shorter span of "popularity"?

Is there also a way to track popularity by views and comment counts instead of just comments?

I find 3 columns to be very distracting (much like the grid view)... prefer the tab thingy & list view better.

I personally think its a good idea, maybe you can lay it out like DannyChoo.com left hand side of the column is in two half, Where popular is underneath and latest is above. This then keeps all the non fig., fig. and dollfie together at either ends. Failed thinking but then again why don't i just click on the pupular tab -_-

I think it would be nice if the popularity of the posts were based on how many people 'liked' the posts instead of the number of page views. Something like facebook?

Also, I suggest a couple of new categories: memes and news. Especially for figures since there are a lot of repeated news and meme posts which adds to burying the good posts.

I also think a small panel for site updates (like this) would be a good idea (maybe users can have the option to hide it?) that way, everyone would know the new features and you would get more feedback.

Should turn figure.fm into a mini facebook for otaku's...Dannybook or Otakubook, great way to network with other otaku's :P

Anyway back to the topic..definitly keep the latest posts, been have a seperate popular posts. Just a question though, how would the popular posts be determined? By the amount of discussion/comments? or amount of views? IF by most views, maybe it would be a good idea to have a 'Most Dicussed' column or seperate section?

As for the top contributers issue, i dunno if its a good idea. I don't really want to sound rude so i wont say it :P

I know this idea would take more work than the others, but what if you came up with a few different basic page layouts using the idea's stated here (nothing fancy, just what the front page would look like with the tabs labeled) and asked some people who haven't come here/know a lot about finding their way around web sites to look at them and discuss which layout would be the easiest to pick their way through. I think one of the things Figure.fm does is introduce people into the world of anime, manga, figures, and other "fan-dom" items. If Figure.fm is easy to navigate (while following the suggestions above) they are more likely to learn about things and feel more comfortable, less overwhelmed.
    That's my two cents. Thoughts?

Nice, load of great new features! Figure.fm is definitely a great source of information. However, since we all live in a world with limited time and resources, having too much information is just as bad as not having any. And from time to time I too find it difficult to go through all the information here on a typical day. As others have suggested, having a "like" function might prove to be useful as well.

We need the ability to edit our comments! Seriously, the number of comments made in order to note or fix an error in a previous comment is getting ridiculous, and it's annoying to do it.

Yep, the posts are steadily picking up in pace for sure. Heh, to the point I'm starting to miss some I would of liked to have seen. Although the feature to go back and look is there, sometimes it's too late by then as not everyone looks to see additional comments posted on their posts. I suspect because the post is no longer top page? *shrugs*
Looks like I'm not the only one thinking this. On the other hand it's a good dilemma yes? ^v^
