Taiga Aisaka Dollfie

Posted by chun [www]

It had been a long drawn project ^^; All clothes are not new, not much time to sew at moment (argh) they either belong to my older (Neglected :P) dolls or figure (the mini tiger) ^^; Gotta schedule some time to sew a bit somehow ^^;;;/

My art blog will have some process pix, the doll blog will have some completed doll pix :3 but here are some previews ;3!

From the hands I can tell it's an MDD, so she's about 38cm. ^^

That looks very impressive, I think it's the face which really gives it the Taiga look to it.
Hope something like this didn't set you back too much. Would love to see school uniform + bokken set.

Awww she looks quite cute! Very brave of you to attempt and paint the eyes, you did a good job! I'm curious which head you used? It looks like a Volks basic head DDH-01 but there's no lips shape. Did you sand it off? *so curious*

MDD knees are floppy like that. I tightened the screws on the inside frame and it helped a bit but it's still floppy. I read someone tried to put in volks kips disk inside on the frame knee joint and it helped a lot, but I haven't tried it myself yet, I've been lazy and just let my Mini girls sit all the time ^^"

Oh I did sand the lips off, thanks to seeing your attempt I felt braver :) it's not perfect tho the painting and sanding ^^; I forgot to mention that on my blog XD I feel like trying to put a stick or something on the back of her leg to see if it helps or not :3 what is a kips disc by the way?

So...MDD's have floppy knees? Do continue this line of conversation. I haven't started on dolls and hope I won't for while yet, but I'm far more interested in the MDD line than I am in the DDs. Still am in terms or looks, but if the knees are difficult to deal with I'll have to reconsider.

The knees are definitely a bit of a problem, but I guess it doesn't bother me too much right now since I have many dolls to play with ^^. I guess I would "play" more with my MDD girls if they could stand better tough. Will try the solution below and let you know my opinion afterwards.

The plus side with mdd is that they have more range of movement, they can touch their face and they can do a cute sitting pose like this : http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3147/2786708784_b1c44dc608_o.jpg
DDII body and DDdy body cannot touch their face (unless you force the elbow joint to pop out...) and cannot sit with their legs like that.

Ohoho...so basically, if the kips solution works, we basically end up with a MDD that can hold their pose, even as they have more range of movement? I can live with that. ^^

These are kips, something Volks invented : http://www.volksusa.com/kips.html
Looks nothing special, but supposedly helps a lot with resin doll posing.

There was a long thread of the Den of Angels doll forum about how everyone's MDD has floppy legs and a member (AreeElf) came up with this solution :
"I have the same problem with my girl's knee so I ended up unscrewing the knee and wedging a kip disk in and then rescrew. The skeleton at that point doesn't disassemble I had to lift he part just enough to wedge that kip in. I also tucked a kip to her loose hip joint and that seems to have worked. SO I ended up Kipping both knees and one hip.
Here's a photo of the kipped knee
        http://images35.fotki.com/v1208/photos/4/41847/5795748/kippedknee-vi.jpg

The kip adds more friction so the joint moves but does not buckle so the knee stays posed. The kip in the hip just keep it from being loose"

I really need to try this sometimes, I already bought the kips long time ago too!! *procrastinator*

Tried it today. There's 6 small kips and 2 big kips in 1 pack, so it was enough for my 3 MDDs. I'll do a post about it when I get the time.

I think I'm going to have to try that with Illya.. since she's MDD and her legs don't much of anything. I had considered gluing some light grit sandpaper in there.. but Kips looks far better choice!

      I'm actually not sure if I will make her school uniform as it's made of colours which if not careful can stain the doll ^^; I do like some of Taiga's regular clothes tho, so hopefully can make some for her when I have time ^^;
