1/1 Combat san snapfitted

Posted by nightmarejan [www]

last night, i finished snap fitting my 1/1 combat san. to be honest, i am very pleased with how she turned out. kotobukiya did a nice job on making her prepainted and even OOTB, she looks good! the plastic quality is very good too, less britle than bandai. and she feels very sturdy. however there a few points that one must be aware when purchasing anything from the hoihoi san line.

here she is ready for some bug killing action <3 while the skirt is molded nicely, kotobukiya shouldve used a rubbery material for it to allow more movement in her legs. in fact, most of her clothing shouldve been made with rubber (like in figmas)
she also came with a black paper that you have to cut out from the manual to serve as the black underskirt thingy.and i hate cutting paper...

close up. nice crisp prepainted details^^ all it really needs is some matt topcoat.

here we can see the joint system that koto used for her arms. and this is another aspect that kotobukya should improve on. the joints are tight...VERY tight.

me, being a stupid modeler thought that they made these joints accurately and didnt sand them to allow more fluid movement. now, i am living with the fear of accidentally breaking the joints with my fat fingers.

this is the worst part imo. ugly gaping seams. they actually open a bit when you bend her legs which is even worse. i assume that a bit of filing on the pegs might fix this, since cement wont fuse them in that state. i also find the legs flimsier than the rest of her, since the left leg is looser than the right. her feet has polycap joint but falls off if you bend it in awkward angles.

back of legs. seams here are fixable, so no problems here. those ugly nubs are already sanded and filed so it can be covered with a fresh coat of paint.

and her gun. i fixed the seams on this one. might put a grey coat over it since and leave it at that. even though i have white paint here, i dont wanna take any chances as ive heard from a fellow user that he screwed up with white paint on his hoihoi san (or was it pink? xD)

you may also find that your combat san might target bugs and ugly toys in your room too. be wary of this.

overall, id give this kit a 7/10. koto really needs to improve their fttings above all things, since i have heard quite a bit about their FMP line, having bad fittings and all. also, her garments should be flexible rubber/plastic. bandai used them on their non scale mazinger kits, with the torso made of rubber, as well as hands and underside of feet. the nub gates are huge and will leave ugly scars especially on the black parts. and last but not the least......

her weapons couldve been molded with color...they bothered prepainting the gold buckles on her boots and blur trims on her clothes, but left the weapons on prototype grey. got lazy there, kotobukiya?

i hope this helps on you guys out there on planning to get her. price is overkill- at 2400 yen there are some things that disappoints you (fittings ehem) i think the price tag should be 1800....unless they rethink of her design and construction.

like Hoi-san, some places are just to small and hard to work with. The seems in the legs are an issue also on Hoi-san. Still I like this figure.... Koto really needs to work on their kits.
