Miku Hatsune VN02 Outdoor Photoshoot

Posted by Kagamiru

This figure arrived recently & she's already my new favorite figure. I personally think she's one of Max Factory's best figures to date, and I'd even go as far to say she's one of the best Miku figures at the moment. She was quite pricey, retailing for 12800Y, but I am really glad I bought her. She's extremely graceful & dynamic, and will definitely stand out in any collection.

My views on the figure:

Max Factory really outdid themselves with this figure. The sculpt & paintjob are both very well done. There are many details on this figure, especially on her outfit. Her face & hair look perfect too.

I've been hearing a lot about this figure looking "small" and whatnot, & I honestly couldn't disagree more. This figure stands pretty tall with the base- and you have to remember the horizontal pose she's in. I think most people look at the size of her head & that gives the illusion that she's small. Her head size is more realistic rather than the typical normal anime head, therefore it causes the entire figure to seem "small".

All in all, this figure is definitely something to get. I don't see her leaning anytime soon- for she is held down by a metal bar & supported with her right knee. I am worried about her pigtails though, they do seem heavy. Still, like all figures, this one is definitely an art piece and is very delicate. She may be fragile, but that awesome pose & sculpt leave her with a real sense of strength.

Nice shots, the colour harmony in some shots is really interesting, but I think green is not a smart choice of background for a figure this green... after all you want her to stick out? A stark red background for example might have worked better I think? I'm not expert in Photography, though...

Haha, thanks! I do agree with you though. I was actually trying to "camouflage" her by placing her in areas- rather than having her stick out, but I wanted the viewer to still see how vibrantly she can appear amidst a forest.

Green overload indeed! The sun worked to my advantage. Her hair seems to be glowing naturally though... only Miku could pull off such a look! Thanks for the comment!

Love the natural sun lighting but I also think green scenery background doesn't suit this figure.

Instead choosing color that would complement the green and support without overpowering would be great, also it would be nice if it's relates to cyber or inorganic theme to match Miku's base and clothes.

I see what you're saying- these photos all rely on sharpening & softening to make the figure stand out, seeing as everything is green! I'm a fan of putting figures out of their respective habitats, but drowning them in the forest may not be the best!

That concept of the cyber & inorganic theme is fun to imagine thouh. The VN02 Moon Remixes video also has a few photos of her leaping in front of the moon which is also a nice image. Thanks for the input!

I can definitely see what made you choose outdoor as your background and I don't think it was bad idea by any mean, not even close but the presence/aura of your center piece of photograph fades to the background due to camouflage effect.

In artistic sense green background seems good for me, minus the nature vs cyber/sci-fi/mechanic themed Miku. But as a figure reviewing photograph it would not work IMO.

NP, but I should also comment how nice your photographs are and the angle you chose. I like the one with sky in the backdrop.

Agreed with your points, she's also my #1 fav.

Personally I would have desaturated the grass with Photoshop to let Miku stand out more. The pictures themselves are excellent.

That's a good idea about the grass- I should start messing around with more photoshopping tools to see what they do! Thanks for the tip, Glad you liked the photos!

I noticed that too... hopefully you won't have to resort to eBay & pay the inflated price. I don't think Max Factory is going to do a re-run on her either unfortunately. You might get lucky though- Good luck finding her!

Thanks for the comment- The reason for the interesting angles is probably because I was holding her the entire time. I didn't want her to fall over on the uneven ground, so I just held her & took the shots, giving me some nice angles!

I totally agree! I was really hoping to do more photos of her against the sky, but I didn't have a reflector on hand causing all the photos to turn out dark :( . I might attempt it again later- its raining at the moment haha. Thanks for the comment!
