The New Face of Mad Science
Today, I gave Agatha a new faceup. Not that her old one wasn't cute; quite the contrary, but for a spark, a mad scientist with reality warping levels of enthusiasm and nerdiness, it was, if anything, too cute. So, I wiped her face and gave her a new one.

Here's a quick look at the finished product, before I show you some WIP shots. Big difference, huh? No longer a meek little thing.

Take one, pastel layer. I thought things were going pretty good at this point.

. . . but, um, they weren't. They very much weren't. What IS that thing? And this is actually the second set of eyelashes too! The first set I didn't even photograph, as they were a most distasteful baby poop brown. ^^;

Well, cleaning up that disaster led to me wiping the whole thing, so I had to redo the pastel layer. Kind of like the new one better.

Still not quite right though. These eyelashes aren't bad, but those thick lower lashes are a little too goth to fit my idea of Agatha.

Here we go! Yeah, that I can definitely live with. ^_^ Sure, it's no Momoiro Manbou, but I like it for the time being.

In addition to a new faceup, Agatha also got new eyeballs. The ones Volks carries weren't doing it for me, so I did some scrounging and found that Pupapa Paradise carries these blank eyeballs they call d.eye.y (yes, very punny). I bought six pairs, three 18mm and three 20mm, made some irises in Photoshop and printed them. I then coated the prints with Pearl-Ex powder, a different color for each eye pair. This pair had the spring green. Yeah, one of the prints is backwards in this pair. Need to fix that.

This pair I like to think of as being "Miku colored". XD They're 20mm, subtly doused in turquoise Pearl-Ex.

Then I swapped out one of the two Miku colored ones for this steely blue-grey. I could only do one steel eye because the lens on one of them is loose and needs gluing.

20mm sapphire blue. I love how these turned out, even though the pupils are a little on the pale side.

18mm green with yellow-green Pearl-Ex. These are the best of the green set, I think, in great part because of how well that golden glitter shows up.

And one last look at her all put back together, probably getting ready to disassemble and "improve" some of my household appliances. =P

It won't work for me until she's got glasses.
Lol! Yeah, I know she needs them. I'm still looking for a pair that looks decent and doesn't cost an arm and a leg though. ^^;
Agreed. You're "right there" for her face, but those glasses will seal the deal.. ( think you could craft 'em??)
O.O
*sigh* I might have to, at very least as a temporary thing while I try to find glass that fit both her size and her personality. ¬.¬
great job! can't wait to see her with glasses as well. She looks much more witty and curious here. Thanks for sharing the results of the pupa eyes! I was wondering how they looked ^^
Heh, thanks! The quest for glasses is going a bit rough, since glasses with thick plastic frames seem to be "in" in the BJD world, and that's very un-Agatha. ^^;
As for the Pupapa eyes, I have to tell you one thing: if you're using prints for the irises, you have to glue them to the lens. Otherwise you get this weird refraction from the profile, like the light is skimming off the inside of the lens instead of off the iris. Still need to treat all of my pairs. ^^; Otherwise they're great though!
I'll have to say that she now looks wide eyed and ready for some mischief! ^_^;; I really dig the new green eyes, you did very well on that color choice. Thanks for showing the process, that was interesting as I have never done anything like this before.
Heh, thanks! I actually loosely based the green eyes on Saber's default ones, though I embellished them a bit when I did the shading.
If you're interested in the process, check Den of Angels' Workshop section. There's tons of tutorials there, which I adapted for my own nefarious purposes.
Thanks for the info! I recently signed up over there but haven't strayed too far from the basic areas yet. Will have to check that area soon.
I practically live in the workshop area. =P It's great to have Agatha around so I can start putting my reading to use. For instance, there's a sewing tutorial that I hope to put to use in a few weeks to make her "Sturmhalten Message" dress from the comic. ^_^
