Mari Dollfie must Get!

Posted by Subaruhess [www]

I only just found out about yesterday but I think I found my first dollfie, the dollfie dream mari! Funny thing is up till now I've zero interest in dollfie's and like Gundamjehutykai I would only get one if they made a character I Really wanted. Price was another thing I didnt like about them, but I spent 96,000yen obtaining her film cels so the 54,000yen volks are asking for her isnt going to phase me. Anyhow going to break into my savings to get this thing, must own it to make my mari collection complete! Images from volks japan.

Woah, if only I could save enough without seeing Gundams. I wonder of she comes with a plugsuit? Or at least something else to wear. A parachute pack?

You're relatively lucky that you found out about her existence before the lottery goes up, so you have a chance to get her from Volks directly for retail price before resorting to Yahoo Japan. So good luck in the lottery! DDs are awesome, and you won't regret it, trust me. :)

How do you actually place an order? So far I can only see it up for (lottery) order on volks USA.

That IS how you place an order. You put your name in for the items you want. And a few days afterward, VolksUSA contacts you if you won any of those items. Then you pay up and wait for the said time estimated on the website. That's how they roll. ;)

Well I emailed them and according to their shipping policy they only ship within USA, Canada and Mexico so no shipping to the UK. So they say I have to order through volks international website (http://www.volks.co.jp/en/) and unless I'm being Really stupid I dont any information about the dollfie dream Mari on that site.

Oh, forgot to mentioned, the international website won't have their lottery up until a few days later. It works relatively the same way as the USA lottery. If you have a US buddy who can put in for you, go for it. If not, just wait for the international one.

Since you've already been informed of the lottery, I figured I may as well tell you why it exists so it seems less bizarre and confusing. ^^; Certainly had me baffled for a while.

The short answer is, the lottery avoids server death. See, while these dolls may not be mainstream, the crowd that's into them is remarkably devoted, and the Dollpa release dolls are all limited editions. When the dolls do become available, people pounce. If you look around for "Dollfie Dream Gathering" posts, you can see what happens when Volks *doesn't* hold a lottery for limited items. The international site essentially crashed; people tried for hours to place orders, and the confused server kept taking things out of people's shopping carts, sometimes putting them back in again, sometimes not, or just plain giving error messages. A lot of people were really upset, since their shopping carts often essentially lied to them, and I can't imagine how vexed the website staff must have been.

So that's why they have the lottery, because all said and done, it's more fair to decide randomly from a pool of customers than to torture them and the staff with the chaos of not having one. ^^; The lottery information on the international site should go up 5 days or so after the Dollpa itself, which will include details on the time window for entering. As I recall, people usually get the results of the lottery a week or so after the lottery closes.

So, what are the chances of winning the lottery? Demand is high on Mari, I also want it. Is it 50-50?

Quite honestly? Nobody but Volks knows, and even they don't really know until the lottery closes. ^^;; Save for one-offs, Volks never discloses how many copies of a limited edition they make, nor do they ever say how many people enter any given lottery. That's part of why you'll often see "Did you get anything in the last lottery?" posts both here and on Den of Angels, because people are trying to guess. On rare occasions, though, they have actually had more dolls than demand, and the dolls then go on regular sale on the site. This actually happened to Nanoha, the poor dear. I'm guessing this won't happen to Mari though.

Farewell, subaruhess. Us remaining dedicated non dollfie owners are playing "another one bites the dust" by queen in your honour! Now, I just need to finalise plans to buy the 1/4 scale bayonetta kit...

I have faith that it will not come to that! Besides, one of their regular dollfies could easily be modded into a Sheryl Nome. I'm sure of it! I'm just not willing to bother!
