1/8 Talos Armor Hunter

Posted by mtomczek [www]

This kit is from the mega hit video game series Monster Hunter. Over the past few years a few small garage kit makers have been putting out fantastic 1/8 scale figures of the various character and armor types from the series. This was my first figure from the Monster Hunter games, and a bit of an experiment in airbrushing for me as well. The gradients are all airbrushed by hand using Mr. Color clear yellow, Mr. Color metallic green, and my own homemade clear purple made using Mr. Color gloss clear and Higgins drawing ink. Since finishing this I have found and picked up 6 more figures from the Monster Hunter series.

The base is all scratch built using celluclay and various woodland scenics goodies. Overall build time took me about 2 weeks.

On a model with this much detail is it hard dealing with overspray using an airbrush?

Not at all. I paint the kit in pieces, and anything that doesn't come apart or has other details that aren't going to be the same color I mask off. With kits like this you learn great patience when it comes to masking. :)

That's pretty cool, like this color way more than the color in the game.

I would love to custom decorate some of my figures bases like that. The plain black or clear bases sometimes dont do justice to the figure ^^

    Awesome, really cool.
I like the new metallic look for the armor.

Good job! I like it. :D

Nice paint job! I've only put off getting any MH kits because I'm inexperienced with garage kits.
