what fuels yer imagination tank?
for all the budding artistes out there, theres one common question that is often asked: "what inspired you to do this and that"
in my opinion, this question is hard to answer since people respond to different stimuli. for example i may be in the mood for a little drama, comedy, cliches, or better yet, noir and eugenic themes. basically this applies to most people. we do things as a response to an external stimulus. same goes for fellow artistes there.
so, enough with my yapping. tonight i am going to show a couple of artists who heavily influence my work. and of course a little sample just to see if i have followed their path ;D so here goes:
all images are copyrighted by their rightful owners.

Heres some works of moto murabito. as you can see, his art is very unique and palatable for my taste.

same artist here. one of the BRS art that i find unique

now we head on to this guy: Hirano Kouta
not only he made the unique plot of hellsing but his punishing artwork does ultimate justice. also the first time ive seen vampires portrayed accurately according to books.

dont you just love that expresssion?

someone id like to put on par with hirano. Mike Mignola also does great justice on the dark themes of hellboy. and his seemingly impressionist art makes it one of a kind

same cookie here. im guessing thats batman...

Peach-pit is also one who influences the way i make bishoujos. how rozen maiden was well laid out and the victorian themes make me a loyal fan of this duo and their work.
suigintou looks nice thar, yay?

reiner rubin(?) [shinku] in mono. you can see how delicate those lines are...something that i find difficult since i have fat heavy fingers for destruction

last but not least, a bit of mixed media from Joachim Luetke. his theme revolves on eugenics and morbidity as you can see here. this my friends, is what id like to introduce as "the root of all evil", meaning i always dig up his work for some, inhuman references ;D

if you think this is nuff to scare you you should check out his site.

and here is the spawn of all of these artists. i deeply thank them for paving a way for me so i could start finding that aesthetic that i want. hopefully i become as skilled and influential as them (someday).
keep on truckin ;D

Imagination? What imagination?
Basically every form of visual and audio media inspires me. From books, tv shows, movies and even what I see around me to the music I listen to conversations I have. But mostly I get inspiration from another anime artists, mangas and animes.
This. Every day I thank Haruhi that I was born at a point in history where the internet exists. Where the work of millions of talented artists is right at my fingertips. If I need some inspiration to kick-start my brain, I can surf over to deviantart or danbooru and soak up inspirational art until my brain overflows. (maybe there should be an /art category?)
I think that it would be pretty cool if there was an art category here that expands beyond just fanart so that we can display our works inspired by not only Japanese culture but everything else as well! But we can easily do that by making our own blogs or Deviantart accounts and linking them.
Everything!
I would agree with the everything comments, since inspiration can come from everywhere. I've been inspired by just looking out the car window while riding in the passenger seat multiple times.
When I'm actively looking to be inspired I turn to art books. Something about having a bunch of artists collected in book form makes it easier to find inspiration than just searching the internet (or maybe it's my desire to one day be published as well, haha). I have a lot of the Ballistic books, mainly in the Exotique and d'artiste lines. I highly recommend them to anyone that hasn't looked at them yet!
oooh very nice! i tend to find myself feeding the same food to my head most of the time xD
There is no particular source I get my imagination from, it comes, I use it. But I often find myself using Katoki Hajime's mecha as a standard and goal when drawing my own...
I would say I am always inspired by other artist work weather it's art or music... a story, a movie.. whatever. Lots of variety... no particular genre.
Oooh, it's nice to see someone else liking Kouta's art.
