Question about BRS-DVD from HobbyJapan
Sun 2010/08/08 17:49 JST

Well as the title says, I have a couple of question for those of you who had already acquired the September issue of HobbyJapan 09:September. Mine's about to arrive in a few weeks... so...
Does the DVD from HobbyJapan come with English subtitles?
Is the DVD from HobbyJapan in HD or in Blu-Ray?
If it's just in HD, is it in HDi or HDp?
Thanks in advance! ^___^

The DVDs that came with various magazines are region free and have English subtitles (among other languages). As they're DVDs, they are of course not high definition.
Sure? Cause I've read from somewhere that the DVDs that were distributed through various Magazines were in HD-DVDs. The ones on NendoPucchis on the other hand is on Blu-Ray.
HD-DVD is a dead format and doesn't play in DVD players, so I'd be surprised if any of the magazines included that format rather than DVD. There aren't too many people out there with the necessary equipment to play HD-DVDs. The retail release coming later in the year is indeed on BD, but for now we just have DVD as far as I know.
This is why I was meaning to ask people who have the CDs in their hands. XD
I bought it hoping that it'll be in HD. Afterall, PS3 plays the format. HD-DVD is not a dead format... haven't you noticed that recent movies are released in three formats? DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray?
I'm not sure what you think HD-DVD is, but as a format it "died" in 2008 and the PS3 cannot play HD-DVDs. I may not have the Black Rock Shooter disc myself, but of those two things I can assure you with absolute certainty.
I suggest you check out these pages, because you've been quite misinformed:

Hmmm... I see. I guess I could only continue hoping that it's at least in a high quality format.
Since it's on DVD, it can only be in standard definition. For high definition quality we'll just have to wait for the retail BD release. I suppose they've done it this way to make sure that the free copies are as cheap to give away as possible, but at least they've put together a great package for the retail release so it seems worth paying for.
i have one from megami in my hands, i and can tell you for-a-fact that they are standard definition DVDs. they are region free, and include subtitles in 7 languages.
They will play on any DVD player on the known earth, PS3s, Xboxs, laptops, desktops, minivans, tour buses, private and commercial airliners.
And I do believe that some people are buying the Magazines because they don't like how the uploaded copies aren't in HD. Judging from that, it makes me hopeful about the CDs from the Magazines being in HD.
Naw, there's just something about psychically having a copy of things. should make sence considering we are all (for the most part) anime figure/merch collectors, and this in my view is highly collectible merch, especially considering the DVDs have different art for the different magazines they come from.
All the distributed copies are dvds therefore the are in 720x480 or 848×480 which is standard definition. I do not know your standard for high quality but if it's at the least 720p then it is not in that format.
What?! You mean it doesn't even reach 720p?! Damn. This makes me think about getting the Pucchi+BluRay...
yeah 480p is kind of low 720p is a must, I would recommend getting the BluRay
Yeah. I had no choice. Ordered the Pucchi+BluRay set... though it's still months release from now. :(
it's way to far way for me to wait, I wish I was as patient as you then I could have waited to see it in hd.
Well I ordered September's HobbyJapan as well so I'll have it. That should satisfy my impatience for the episode.
Now after I realized that this wasn't even 720p, I somehow felt the need to buy the BluRay as well. So I pre-ordered it. XD
As I mentioned earlier, DVD is strictly a standard definition format by today's standards. The maximum resolution for DVD is 720x576 at 50Hz or 720x480 at 60Hz.
SD, quality of the dvd is rather meh for me, go for it the Blu-ray, HD graphics and HD5.1 audio.
Yep its what they say here. Just saying a regular dvd thats why its better to wait for the bluray comes with extras too.
