Otakuthon Montreal - 2010
Sun 2010/08/15 13:44 JST
Went to Montreal on Saturday, August 14, 2010 to finally check out an Anime convention. Otakuthon is my first Anime convention so I wasn't sure how exactly things worked, but somehow managed with the nice cosplayers and otakus heh. Got a nice autograph by Himeka. I also have a video. I hope you can wait a day so I can put it together ^^. Enjoy the images!
Hope these aren't too many images ^^.
Video of Otakuthon 2010 ^^.

Nice Pics AK, some cosplays looks good
Thanks ^^. Ya, some or most do look nice heh.
In Montreal? There're quite a number of asian-looking faces there. Some are really impressive.
Now that you bring it up, ya I did notice that lol. Probably because it was near China town.
There's a lot of immigrants that come to Montreal, it's a very multicultural city.
So is every other Canadian city ^^. What I seen in Montreal is what I already see in Ottawa lol. Probably not as much but still the same lol.
I lol'd
Invisible sword ftw?
lol
And ya, easier to cosplay :P. Wish I took a picture of the doll like Saber that had a sword, blah.
Flying Spaghetti Monster!
Everywhere I see... Final Fantasy XIII cosplay ^^; Saw tons of them here at Anime Evolution.
We should all applaud a cosplayer who see the character possibilities in his build....and does not try to go as Mio.... (^ω^)
little kids in cosplay are the cutest!
Hehe, I was there all weekend, this is like a 15-20 min drive from where I live.
The selling area left me dissapointed. I bought a few mini animal plushies, 2 manga and 2 anime DVD sets (prices were good), but the figure selection was not good at all, and the prices were ridiculously high. I suspected quite a few Nendos to be bootleg as well. No rare finds or anything to get me hyped up. U_U
The video game area was alright, played some Arcana Heart, but they were so annoying with the "no bag policy". They wouldn't let me in with my tiny purse, but they would let people in with white plastic bags cuz they are "see through". I ended up putting my purse in a damn plastic bag and was able to get in with it.... O_o ?
Actually half the anime showing was english sub and the other half was french sub. They had to do it this way to make everyone happy. There was 5 rooms showing anime and 1 showing live action if I recall. Too much Yaoi if you ask me. (There was a room dedicated for yaoi for the whole 3 days)
The eating area had a nice japanese food selection, but it was pretty expensive for the quality and quantity you get.
What surprised me the most and k inda annoyed me at the same time was the immature level of 18-20ish years old guys watching the hentai showing at night. We could hear them laugh and yell stupid comments from 2-3 rooms away. Yes it may be cheesy and funny, you can whisper a few jokes to your friends, but don't bother the other people watching anime in the other rooms please... What's the point of screaming when you see hentai with a group of guys?
I did have some fun and did get to see some new anime, but the rest left me a bit annoyed and disappointed.
Oh and yeah, no slow driving in Montreal, you either DRIVE or DONT DRIVE lol. Life's to short to waiste time in traffic jam... hehe
You were? I had Shana with a "d" flag but nobody said anything. They looked, but no words lol.
Ya, I scrolled through the selling area twice and was disappointed to find uninteresting materials. They need to try again and more seriously lol. Some of the Figma prices were nice and low, but I already had those. Gundam kits were the best sellers from what I seen.
Video games? I saw that place being packed. I didn't go in there. Half trained volunteers or staff? If they let you do that and if I was able to take images of Himeka they were "Canadian kind" ^^.
I guess, I scrolled through each Anime viewing session very quickly, and did so twice. I mostly saw French subs lol.
Eating area? My curry with rice and beef teriyaki was horrible. Sushi selection was alright and the fish treat (damn I'm being forgetful) looked alright. The selling and cosplay cafe were the only thing to outright disappoint me.
People shouting because of hentai? The closest I got were people's large heads during Himeka's concert and the RPG roleplay game. Maybe they were actually pleasuring themselves?
I just tried to enjoy as much as possible for it being my first Anime Convention. I was expecting to get more images and especially video clips. Was fun ^^.
Montreal driving? I only said they should take it easy because they zig-zag like crazy. I understand the traffic jams but they'll eventually end up lodged in a tree or in a light-post ^^. The traffic jams around the whole city was insane........
Yup, I didn't see anybody with a "d" flag, but there was like 6000 people or so there lol. I bet those figmas were bootlegs too. I recall Anime North and CN Anime to have better selling areas, but that was a few years ago I went there.
Don't you learn french as a 2nd language in Ontario? we learn english as a 2nd language in Quebec =p. Haha, you can make better curry if you buy a Golden Curry box at the asian grocery store. And zig zag is the way to drive in town, you need quick reflexes lol.
Next time I'll have her on my tag 100% of the time. Bootleg Figmas, good thing I didn't give in and buy one.
Ya, I was forced to learn Quebec-French but I still don't know it :P. I couldn't graduate High school without it and I still don't know what anybody is saying. If they had a Slovak or Japanese course I'd probably do better lol.
I bet I could as it was just simple frozen rice and then the vegetable.
Winner! XD
