Figure painting help

Posted by Arctic-Kitsune [www]

I seen many people talking about painting various model kits and such on here so I thought I'd ask you guys/gals. What paint type should I use to paint on Benio's armor? Never tried painting one and wanted to give it a try.

Then on the flip side, what do I use to remove paint on Thunderbird 2? The kid in me ruined the cool thing many years back over unknown reasons. I think its the cheap yellow paint you get from Wal-Mart or dollarstore...tried hot water and one other chemical and couldn't get it off.

That's one of the old Thunderbird two toys when toys back then were diecast, not plastic. I had about three of those in the house... They've been given away a long time ago.

Not sure how to remove the yell of it without damaging the orginal paint though, would of said thinners...

Painting that figure? um, for me, I would probably ink it in some way or paint it with paints from GAMES WORKSHOP, those paints used for War Hammer or such. :/

    Experiences painters needed XD

Ya, I had lots of Diecast and plastic sets. Thunderbird 1 & 3 + 4 survived the test of times, the rest vanished.

      Thinners? Hmm...will look into it.

I was thinking of inking in the fine detail but also wanted to paint the armor a bright red. Games workshop? Hmm, I think I got something similar to that here. Remember seeing it around before the certain mall got closed to make room for a large grocery store.

Will check more into this, thanks ^^.

Always use primer and various paints can be used such as tamiya paints, enamel paints, airbrush paints, etc...

If you want to remove the yellow paint w/out damage the plastic parts..use a thinner & a cottonbuds (cotton is better) & before using primers..use some sandpaper # 400-800 grits if you want (available in some scale gunplas) ^Y^

Why did you paint Thunderbird 2? O_O
Ahhh just read, you were a kid when you did it, forgivable. But we never did... Thunderbird 4 got awfully scratched up though, was my second favourite :D

When we're kids we have little to no respect for things :P.
Thunderbird 4 survived the paint abuse and disappeared somewhere into the closet.

I know... I wonder how I let the stickers on my Driger F get into the raggedy state they're in now... but I don't think my dad would have let us defile the Thunderbirds we had. All the pretty die-cast ones... he was the reason we watched it in the first place after all XD

Paint thinner will NOT remove paint that has already hardened. I don't know why people always say this. Try soaking it in some brake fluid. That stuff will take the paint off of anything. It's water soluble, so it's easy to clean up (just don't get any on your skin!) If that scares you too much, put it in a bag, spray Easy Off oven cleaner all over it, and let it sit overnight. Neither of those chemicals will harm plastic or metal, but they will rip off that paint like you wouldn't believe.

I'll consider these two options, thanks for suggesting ^^.

For the TB plane, I think it's best to sand/polish it to remover the paint. Then just use primer and scrape/slice up some new panel lines that disappeared due to sanding. Then apply the new paint.

For the shink.. Hmm. Do you have an airbrush? It's good if you have one coz the shinki has tiny details on her armor. BTW, which do you prefer, Glossy or flat?????

Hmm, don't know what to do now. People saying to thin and to use break fluids and such. Guess I need to apply new paint on that thing anyways.

I don't have an airbrush and a flat color, I guess. Don't want it glossy, just semi-bright red.

Do you know a hobbby shop that sells Tamiya Spray Cans. If my memory serves me right, Tamiya has some Flat colors. Or if not, buy a semi-bright red spray can and a Flat Top Coat(if want it flat). Or, if you just want to have a lively red color, buy a Clear Red Spray Can.

Oxyclean might work. Senor garage kit builders at e2046 swear by it when they want to re-paint some old statues.

you could try acetone sold in boutiques and pharmacies. but the stuff is too strong though. so avoid using it on areas which has the original paint on it nyah :3 the green color is the plastic's color right? and not just a paint layer, right? '_____'

OH! don't pour the acetone okay? '____' try wiping it with a cloth and not too much so that it soaks the cloth, just make the cloth moist. test it first though O_____O
