2010 Taiwan Anime Exhibition : My First Convention

Posted by lKaionlRiul [www]

this recent weekend on the days of August 14th – 15th I had the chance to attend an anime convention for the first time in my life !

ported from my blog's original post : http://kaionlriu.wordpress.com/2010/08/17/2010-taiwan-anime-exhibition-my-first-convention/

The Taiwan 2010 高雄動漫展 at 高雄市現代化綜合體育館(高雄巨蛋)
*Taiwan 2010 Kaohsiung Anime Manga Exhibition at Kaohsiung Big Egg

this is the official homepage for the convention , it is all in Chinese , I had a hard time reading it myself too

having spent almost all of my funds on other loot and goods in my two months stay in Taiwan I left myself with approx 4000 TWD ( $130 ) to spend , which I thought was a lot to be honest.. oh man how wrong I was..

first off here is a video to give you an idea how crowded it was
in hindsight now I realize it actually wasn’t so bad , compared to Comiket that is

this lovely character here is named 巨蛋娘 / Big Egg Girl

this 巨蛋 / Big Egg is a giant stadium in Kaohsiung where the majority of anime related events take place

these are the front and back cover of the bag given for free to the first 1000 participants to enter the 巨蛋 stadium , for everyone else it costs 80 TWD , I did not get mine for free =l

this lovely Hatate plush (by GIFT) was released just days prior to the convention start and somehow the manager of this circle had it hanging around his neck !

this has to be one of the cutest Yuuka plush I have ever seen
I did not ask but it does not seem to be by GIFT so my guess is this one is custom made by the people in this circle
edit: http://www.w-canvas.com/shopping/detail.php?item_id=40905 not custom made after all

one part of the exhibition hall featured a walkway with framed art much like the above , they seem to all be art drawn by Taiwan-related artists

there was an 痛車 / ita-sha exhibit too

痛 means pain while 車 means car/vehicle hence 痛車 (read いたしゃ ita-sha) is a term used to describe cars and vehicles decorated with massive amounts of anime/game images to the point that it pains one’s eyes when one looks at it

it is also a play on the synonym イタ車 / Italian Car which refers to expensive Italian cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini

I wonder out of all the people who took a photo of this car understand what the words on it mean ^ ^ … I did not realize until I took a moment just now and read it

I witnessed a circle’s table collapse due too many books on the table ,
or maybe it was too many eager peoples leaning on it

spotted a Hideyoshi dakimakura on sale at the next table = w =

nekomimi Yuki

she is part of a circle which sells a variety of nekomimi hats for 300 TWD each
sadly they only have one size … which was too small for my big head

the Sheryl Nome cosplay on the left is actually quite good looking too
this is just a really bad photo

the Sakuya cosplayer just happened to be standing over the Remilia cosplayer when I asked if I could take a photo , so this was the pose they went with

I spent about half an hour running through the exhibition hall trying to hunt down and see the front of this super cute Kagami cosplay

In case anyone is wondering the person inside is a young girl in the early twenties ; I saw it myself so rest assured

it seems with the Kagami cosplay on she is barely able to see and has to hold hand with a friend who leads her around
