"Japan's hunt for missing elderly..." From Yahoo!

Original link to article here.

Ok. I know for some of us we don't really care all that much about non-Otaku related news, but I'm here just to highlight something. Japan boasts some of the longest life expectancy rates in the world due to many factors such as sanitation, advanced technology, and more. I've been hearing about this in the news but while reading this article today about the decline in the number of elderly people in Japan, I happened to read one person's name that was interviewed for this article that is also a well known anime character, Mio Akiyama. I know it's just coincidence, but I just wanted to post what I saw, but also it's also a good way to bring some normal Japan news to figure.fm.

Hmm... wonder where all the elderly people are disappearing too? I can't believe how bad some of the records are for keeping track of the oldest people there.

LOL well I bet that Akiyama-san was born LONG before k-on was made so lets say there are tons of Nana Kondo(Nana Mizuki) out there in Japan or maybe alot of Fate Testarossa, who knows XD

So either the elderly people were hiding in despair or committed hunger strike.

Man, these people need a life and company. Maybe the growth of the elderly were fake, IMO.

Brought to mind "Roujin Z" . . . the elderly don't have places to gather and younger people don have "time" to sit and talk with old relatives and community members . . . . too busy with "Love Plus" and K-ON!! and such . . . and sometimes elderly people don't like to be considered "old" . . . I'm 10 years old inside a 65 years old body . . . ;P

Actually, it's a real disturbing issue of Japan and China (Singapore, Hong Kong, etc). Their Elders are more prone to spontaneous (and mostly permanent) Ammnesia than elderlies of other countries. It is said that it's beacause despite the fact that these countries are the ones leading in technology, careers, and such, most elders disagree to adapt to the new age or modernization (something we'd now refer to as "old-fashioned"). So they tend to be unoccupied and spaced out - leading to them being weak and vulnerable to emotional stress and the feeling of loneliness.

Some elders deal with this none-occupation or simply boredom, by leaving their houses and taking trips to groceries, markets, and such. Sadly enough though, these are where most cases of spontaneous ammnesia occur...

So unfortunately, they end up lost.

What's sad is that people die, nobody bothers to check, and the family keeps getting money for 10-20 years. I bet Japan's financial woes would be less if they actually bothered to check on these folks on a semi-annual basis.
