AKA: it is normal for dead fish to be belly up.

I'm not a biologist, but I think that might actually be true to a certain degree, since fish have an air 'bubble' inside their bodies, which they use to float while swimming in the sea.
If you put them into a place with more or less pressure suddenly (like an aquarium) they might not be able to adjust fast enough.
Not claiming that it's true, but I think it might work that way :)

I don't know for sure but this is what I'm thinking as well. If a certain type of fish lives very deep in the ocean it may not be able to adjust to the low pressure of an aquarium.

One way to be sure is just watch the fish and see if they move. If they do, most likely not dead. haha

I'd hope that T&T is telling the truth.

I've always assumed that if they're belly up they're dead <__<
