Which character should I get a custom DD of?
A while back, I bought a Dollfie Dream Base Body II with the intention of getting a custom DD made out of one of my favorite female anime characters. With all of the characters to choose from though, I've become sort of overwhelmed trying to decide which one I love enough to be willing to go through that expense for. Finally, I've narrowed down my option to three of my favorite characters.. Meflina (from Outlaw Star), Nana Osaki (from NANA), or Fuu Kasumi (from Samurai Champloo). In terms of DD customization, each one of the girls has their own pro and cons (listed below), which is why I've now turned to you guys for help in deciding which one I should go for. And hopefully, I'll be able to make a final decision based on the responses that I get :D
Pros/Cons for each character:
Pros:
- Awesome, dynamic character with a badass rocker personality
- Interesting make-up and facial design which could make for a gorgeous DD
- Would be the easiest of the three to buy clothes for because of her punk-rock style
- Would also be easiest to find a wig for
Cons:
- Would eventually have to buy a second DD to get customized into Nana Komatsu (Hachi), because you could never get one of the Nana's without getting the other to keep her company
- Since Nana tends to wear darker clothing in the show, the clothes that I buy for her may be more prone to staining and somewhat of a hassle to deal with
Pros:
- Samurai Champloo is and always will be my favorite anime above all others, and Fuu has such a warm and lovable personality
- The DD-04 so closely matches Fuu's facial structure in the anime that the resemblance would be stunning if the make-up is done correctly
- Fuu is a character that I'd never get tired of, and also one that I'd be glad to have a DD of since very few figures of her exist
Cons:
- Would either have to make her kimono myself or pay someone else to custom make it for me and thus cause me even more expense
- Would also be difficult to find a wig for her that closely matches her hairstyle in the anime
Pros:
- Outlaw Star is a classic, and I've always loved Melfina as a character because of her kind and sweet-natured personality
- Would make for a gorgeous doll because of her soft facial features and flowing hair
- Very few Outlaw Star figures exist, and it would be awesome to own a giant Melfina that represents my love for the anime
Cons:
- Dark wig would be prone to staining, as would her dark skirt (but only if her grey stockings weren't on)
- Would be somewhat difficult to hunt down clothes for to match those she has in the anime, and I'd probably have to mod the clothes that I get (such as adding straps to her skirt, making her a tie, and things like that)
So, given the positives and negatives of them all, which character would you guys choose if you were me?

I'm not a dollfie owner myself, but I want to comment on this. :D
I think you've chosen three good characters to select from. There can't be many people who have dollfies of the characters you're thinking about. They're also three characters I'm familiar with.
I voted for Nana. I think it would work really well, seeing as she looks very doll-like to start with. Like you said, I can imagine clothes for her would be fairly easy to come-by, too. She's also an awesome chatacter.
Whichever one you choose in the end, I look forward to seeing it.

I definitely agree with you about Nana, she's such a cool character and really has the most doll-like face of the three, pretty much the only thing holding me back is knowing I'd have to get Nana Katsumoto along with her. Not that I don't love Hachi too, but my wallet will hate me for it :P
Haha, crap.. just realized I've been spelling Nana K's last name wrong this whole time.. Komatsu**** is what it actually is. I guess it's pretty obvious I like Nana O the most out of the two xD
Def Nana since she's so cool and you'll have a lot if fun with her clothes since there are so much of it already available. But a Fuu one would be cute too. Can't wait which one it will be

Triad Toys is working on a 1/6 Fuu doll right now to go with the Mugen and Jin ones that were already released a few months ago, so I feel like that Fuu would be enough for me if I don't end up getting a DD of her. The only problem is that they make take a few more years to release her if at all D:
But I do think Nana really would make for a striking DD :)
I couldn't decide if I should vote for Nana or Fuu. The former it was, though. =3
Fuu is really a lovely and cute girl but like you said getting new clothes for Nana would be easier and therefor you have more dress-up options. And besides, you'll get another DD somewhere in the future anyway. You can't just stop at one girl. =P

What I love about Nana, is like you said, that she doesn't have a default outfit on the show, so I could basically buy any punk styled clothes and they'd look great on her. But I just love Samurai Champloo and Fuu so much that it's causing me to second-guess myself D:
Man yeah, the more I think about it the harder it gets to choose. Fuu would be so lovely and unique as a doll, but there are just more possibilities with Nana. ;^; Really depends on what kind of Dollfie you want to have the most. Anyway, no matter which one you're going for I'm really, really looking forward to see it!
I don't think the possibility of staining should keep you from making a Nana dollfie. There are body stockings, or in the event you don't want to get one, I heard plastic-wrap makes a cheap (and less covering, if necessary) alternative. Also, it might be nice to have Nana and Hachi dollfies :)
Yeah, I think you're right .. having Hachi and Nana together would actually be pretty cool. Since I already have the Yoko and Nia DDs together, it would only make sense to have a DD friend for Nana O from the same anime.. and Hachi is a really great character :D
You guys have convinced me, Nana O is the chosen one xD I thought about it a lot last night and paid someone to custom-make Nana's eyes this morning, so they should be done in two weeks and then I'll send off her head to be painted into Nana as well.

Why only make one, you should make all of them since they are all great characters! hehe...
I would be most interested to see a Melfina DD, but Nana may be easier regarding clothes. If you go with Nana, don't forget to do all her ear piercings! And make sure to line her black clothes or use body stocking or plastic wrap underneath. ^^
Oh man, I so wish I could! D: Too many other pre-orders and garage kits are standing in my way though.. but hopefully I'll be able to make Melfina and Fuu one day too ^^
I've gone ahead with Nana, so I've already started painting her lotus ren flower tattoo on her arm along with painting her fingernails and toenails :D I'm commissioning someone else to paint the head itself though because I don't think I have the still enough yet to make it look just like Nana. Thanks for the reminder about the ear piercings ^^, that's the part of her accessories I'm the most excited about.. the only problem is that DD ears are somewhat thick, so I'm not really sure how to go about doing that ^^;
With a pin vice you should be able to make piercings. One of my DD head has pierced ears (the person that owned it before me made them). You don't have to pierce it all the way through, you could pierce it just enough so you can glue your mini earring in the holes. Sorry to ask you for even more advice, but I know that you more than anyone are really familiar with the different DD head types ^^.. do you think I should use a DD-02 head for Nana or a DD-03? I've been going back and forth on which one would better suit her facial features, and I just can't make a decision on which one looks more like her D:
I was think the DD-02 head because the eyes seem more rounded like Nana's and less boxy than the DD-03, but the eye-holes on the DD-02 head seem very small, and Nana has a lot of white showing in hers eyes that could be better suited to the DD-03 head >_<..
Both heads could work with the right face-up, but I think DD-02 might be better. You can use 18mm eyes to show more white or even 16mm to show a lot. (here's an example of DD-02 in 18 mm http://www.volksusa.com/eyeani00a04.html)
It's also possible to change the eye shape a little bit by sanding to make it a little bigger. It's a very easy mod, here's a tutorial for obitsu head, it's the same as DD heads http://parabox.jp/eng/custom/custom2.html
