Custom face-up attempts.

Posted by Sinistra [www]

Alright so I finally got down to working on the face-ups I have been procrastinating on for a while. A while back I got two DDH-02 heads and DDII S-bust bodies to create some custom girls. Bought all the tools and paints I needed to do so. Being a painter I personally prefer to use a glass pallet over paper ones since the color mixing is so much better and easier, IMO, no to mention it's cheaper since you don't have to throw anything away after each use. Anyway here is the result of my attempts, not so pleased with them, so when I get more time I will do them over. I still haven't named them yet, any suggestions?

Thanks, I love them too but I feel like their face-up could be more well done...you can't really see the mistakes.

I would actually recommend all potential and current dollfie parents to give it a try, it actually feels pretty good to be able to do a face-up the way you want. Not to mention it's much less of an impact to your wallet! XD

Awesome, can't wait to see it! Yeah I ended up buying all my supplies from both the VolksUSA store and Volks international store. It took about a week more for the Volks international items to arrive. Oh and I'm not sure if you know this or not, but you can find some cheap bodies on Y!J I found both of my S-bust bodies on Y!J for only 17,000 yen, about 5,000 yen cheaper than Volks' site.

Wow, I would think S-bust bodies would be more expensive o.o Maybe I'll have to give that a shot XD

I thought so too, initially. There is one right now going for only 14,000 yen. Y!J opens so many doors and many more holes in your wallet.

So very true XD The only problem might be using one of those services (I forget what they're called; having someone in Japan buy it for you and then ship it to you) as I've never really used one XD

I've tried two different fowarding services so far. One is Rinkya.com and the other is Shoppingmalljapan.com. Try and look them up.

Hmm had a few ideas for names, if you wouldn't mind me reccomending some?

      - X&Y
      - D1&D2 (lol)
      - Alpha & Omega
      - Berry & Honey? (Going by Eye colours)
      - Aurora & Dawn
      - Melanie & Phoebe (Both names are Greek, Melanie means "dark" and Phoebe means "light")

Not bad at all for your first try. I find it's easier to first draw the outline in a very light water color pencil, then paint with a ligther shade of brown first then finish with a darker shade of brown or back to create the final details. Also, thinning the paint as much as possible creates better results i think.

I did 3-4 faceups a while ago, and found myself erasing with q-tips more than painting lol. Shaky hands are so bad...

Thanks, I was actually looking at these when I was working on them. I'm sure it's due to them having years of practice, so I don't think you should feel bad.
