Custom Figure fail....
So....I decided to modify this super cheap figure I got at a Toys R' Us Express into Murdoc Niccals from Gorillaz. I don't think it went so well xD
It's only my second time modifying a figure, and the first time I've modified one so much. Also the first time I've ever used Sculpey clay--or any sort of clay, for that matter. I couldn't bake the clay, either, or it'd melt the figure, so I used a hair dryer to harden it XD His little ahoge (that's what I'ma call them, anyway) broke off twice, had to remake them the first time, and then just superglued them back on the next xD
His necklace is just painted on, but luckily the original figure had a necklace on, so I had kind of an outline for his shirt with the necklace string.

Trust me, I know it's bad, spare me the horrible criticism XD

Don't worry just try again and each time you will improve a little more^^
Lol, thanks xD I wasn't really planning on trying again--I don't have another base figure to work with yet. I'll probably grab another one next month or so--I really have to figure out how on Earth people make those epic customs though o_O
wicht kind of clay do you use? I can help you a little about custom.
I use to sculp dolls and some time figurines.

This is one of the bjd that i'm sculping(a little bit stopped because i had too many work) But anything you need feel free to ask.
Amazing O_O
I think I used Sculpey--just for the hair though, the rest was already made and together. I just used a $3 Guitar Hero figure I found at a Toys 'R Us, cut off his mohawk, painted him, and sculpted new hair for 'im
The real trouble I'm having is making the paint look clean and smooth ><
I should use epoxy putty, You know, that like clay done with two components that when you mix them you can use it as plasticine, but it's dry alone without bake it.
Also i think you have to sand it a little more and for the paint , disassembled it first and use a colour tamiya spray(sure you can get them in hobbyshops) or a airbrush. then the details with a very small brush(that's what i done)
I hope you can get more tips that help you to do your figurines dream^^
So I need some airbrushing stuff...that would explain why it looks awful, and the paint comes off every time I move the joints too much xD
Thanks so much for the advice ^^
ah and also before paint you have to give it with a first paint with a spray with a withe or a black spray a base layer to make the colour paint don't fall down
-"I really have to figure out how on Earth people make those epic customs though o_O"
My Motto: "If at first, You Don't succeed, Go have a Beer" Just kidding!!
Practice, practice, and More practice... My stuff still needs improvement, but it used to look waay worse that what you just did.. Not too shabby, really... Don't give up!!..
o.O
I'm too young to drink though XD
Thanks x3 I just need to get some more of those cheap little figures and make ten or so of these, one of 'em has to come out decent xD
"One of 'em has to come out decent"?? Nah, I think that if you learn from your mistakes and apply the lessons learned, you will have seven-eight or more come out better... Think Positively, You'll DO positively... (trust me, it does happen that way, or I'd not be working on aircraft right now..)
what kind of paint did you use?
Um...some crappy craft store paint >< I didn't know at the time that it would completely ruin the way the figure turned out >___<
Stupid comment button, thought it was the reply button...
use Tamiya Acrylic paint, you may need to use a primer and use flat topcoat on parts that are not glossy and for the hair, use gloss topcoat.
Alright, thanks for the advice ^^

you will be successful soon i believe ^__^
What are you talking about? I think it's awesome! I'd put it just in front of a Sader figure
o_O I....I can't tell if you're being sarcastically harsh, or oddly complimentary.
No, I'm serious!. Look, I like any kind of bizarre and strange figures, specially if they're custom. I'm not a buyer but I like this kind of crafts (however, I'm in a request of getting a Sader figure with no success). As you can see I can't be critic in this point of view but keep practicing and you'll become an excellent craftsman.
I don't think its too bad because I immediately recognized it as Murdock. If you can't tell who it is supposed to be, THEN you can say it crappy.
Well, at least you can tell it's him X3
It looks better than any first attempt I ever did at sculpting. I attempted modeling a Gundam in a 3D modeling program and it didn't turn out so well. Very hard, and my first time modeling something so complicated without instructions. So just got to practice more. As long as you got the heart, and no deadlines, you'll get there.
Practice and better paints seems to be what I need xD Thanks :3
