Mugi is Yellow - Test Photoshoot
Been ranting and posting and ranting and posting about this for a couple of times already, and finally, I get the chance to do an actual photo shoot of Mugi! Well, actually, it's more of a test photo shoot. I've mentioned before that I, being noob at photography, can only take decent shots when the sun is blazing in the sky. Without intense natural lighting, I'm doomed.
Sadly, after taking these two shots, the sun decided to hide behind a huge plump of clouds... so I couldn't take any pictures anymore. XD

Perhaps it's easy to tell now - Yellow is my favorite color. Though I think it was a bit too overdone. XD

Mugi's so cute!

The following are the raw pictures with the following settings: 100 ISO, F1/20, White Balance was set at "Sunny" since someone told me before never to set it on Auto. So I tried to set it according to the environment.

My problem is this - the colors are too dull for my taste. I love pictures with vivid colors, and the only way I see that completely possible is through keen editting... Oh well, I guess practicing raw shooting is my thing for now.
Editting Software Used: [Not really used, but I played around with] GIMP2
Arsenal: Canon 40D
Any suggestions are welcome, and in fact, NEEDED! =3 Also, I need whatever way that would make carrying Nendos around much easier. If anyone knows any Do-It-Yourself Nendo cases that would be safe for the figure, I'd like to see them! =3

Try the "Generic" or "Auto" settings until you are a bit more comfortable with it.. *which I'm not either, just starting to mess around.*
I loathe the Auto settings. XD Though it's useful for the times when I can't shoot [when there's no natural light source], I still think full Manual settings can produce better shots. Or perhaps I'm being a bit too stubborn.
TT___TT
Not really.. I use the auto setting a lot because I don't have much time to get off my lazy posterior and do something.. work from 1500 to 2330 (add an hour for travel time each way) Weekends don't have much to offer, cause I'm usually out fixing someone's car. Frak, I haven't even played a good game of paintball in almost two years!!.. So, to get back on topic, I use the "Auto" setting on my Canon 20D and a fair macro lens for the sole reason that it's the easiest.. Practice, a good lens or three, and lots of pics, and you'll have some great photos...
Wow, did I yak a lot or what?.. *sorry!*
o_O
XD Nah, no unnecessary "yakking" done.
Well, I wish I had a Macro lens. I'm currently living on my Kit Lens for most of my shots, though if needed, I have a 75-300 USM lens as my back-up ammo. USM-IS is just waaaay too expensive. I've officially confirmed that photography [nor is figure collecting for that matter] is definitely not a hobby for a young, jobless, highschool student like me. XD Your problem is time, but at least you spend time that helps you support the hobby. In my case, my problem is how I can support the hobby. XD
Whoops, kinda off topic. XD
Ohhh I love the colours :D and those are some good photos I still need to do that with my figmas at some point.... But ilive in England so tring to take outdoor pictures is quite hard :p
You're lucky you live in England! You guys have so much reserved natural parks and flower farms there! Here in the Philippines, we're almost all buildings and architectural structures with minimal natural parks... In fact, I took these photos inside a flower pot on our terrace. XD
But we only really see the sun once every blue moon :p
Then maybe [not that I should be giving suggestion, cause I'm a newbie], instead of my Sunny Evironment + Yellow Coloration mash up, a nice Afternoon Light + Semi-Blue Coloration would be nice. I'm no photographer, truly, but I'm confident in saying that I may have a strike at colors. XD
Carry solution - http://zh3us.wordpress.com/2009/08/31/compacting-figmas/
I have almost exactly the same accessory-keeping-box! Also from Daiso. XD
I've been looking for those small accessories people use as Nendo/Figma accessories in Daiso... but I can't find any. Or maybe our Daiso here in the Philippines doesn't have a toys section. XD
The camera you're using is good enough for the shots you were describing. D-SLRs doesn't need "intense natural lighting" for good results even more so when you're already shooting outside.
Don't get macro lens.. Surely you'd rant about it lacking in something like how you did with point and shoots and needing a good D-SLR. Fiddling around with the manual settings isn't that hard now is it? /rhetorical
Bottom line, no matter what camera or lenses you use won't matter if you have no idea how to use them correctly.
I wasn't really ranting about anything in particular. I had mentioned how I wanted to learn from other photographers since I couldn't produce vivid-colored images... it wasn't really a matter between the lens and the camera I was using.
I already got the machine I want to work with, the only thing I need now is to learn how to use it correctly. Never mentioned I didn't like my camera, or wanted anything better. XD
Oh is that so..
You also need to learn to google good sir.. Just typing in "nendo cases" as keywords and I already got this tutorial.
And yes, I have tried to use google and found all of Kod's carrying cases using google. But those are the only ones I found decent, so I came here for help. Now if you can show me another decent carrying case that you've searched from google, then that's when you can tell me that you can USE google better than me. Because I DID use google.
And just another tip "good sir," please choose your words more carefully because you tend to sound very arrogant. Thanks.
Looks good! I don't really have anything interesting outside near me so I haven't done many outdoor shoots.
I wasn't able to find a god location as well... so I took these shots inside a flower pot. XD
ああ~、まぶし!!!
もっとまぶしですの。
申し訳ありません!
私もそれは少しやり過ぎだと思った。
あの、かんじわよくわからないし。 すみませんでした。
yellow, yellow everywhere
You don't like it? :(
Haha! =3
I wanna tell you some advices, but I can't do that correctly in English. So I say one thing.
Taking pics against the light will make your photos more vivid.
Sorry for my poor advice....orz
What do you mean by against the light? The light is at the back of the subject, or the light is at the back of the camera?
A.) [Camera] ===> [Figures] ===> [Light]
or
B.) [Light] ===> [Camera] ===> [Figures]
A.(・∀・)
But I think A will make a sillhouette! I'm confused. XD
Use a flash.(・∀・)
I see I see. I'll try that sometime. Thaaaanks!
Good luck!(・∀・)
So cute x3 I couldn't resist Mugi so I bought her and Mio yesterday :D They should arrive at the same day, when is my prize day, 4th of June (=^.^=)
