My first Gunpla

Posted by pipopaz

Konnichiwa minna-san ^_^,
Today i was able to finish my first gunpla 00 Gundam. Had a lot of fun building this one and i think it was enough to get me hook up in building more ^^;; Although i was a little surprise with how small it actually was scale 1/144, though heard that scale 1/100 is about 20cm taller so next time i'll be one that scale.

    Nice job.. I see a few burrs left from the parts sprues. but a very nice clean build.

    I know what you mean about difficulty with big hands

    That's why I usually go for 1/100 instead... But using twizzers will be helpful in such cases...

    Looks like all the gunpla I have shrined in my closet. ^^; I didn't have any tools on hand out in the jungles, so I had to take them apart with my bare teeth, and then I was way too scared to paint them, because I don't have any skill with that. Don't be frightened about going further, always push that envelope! Or else you'll be left with a closet full of about a hundred unfinished gunpla like me... ^^;

    Did pretty good for a first Gunpla. I remember mine was 1/144 Epyon, and I by-accident removed all the parts before doing anything, so I guessed the whole time while assembling it ^^I

    For a beginner, I would suggest just getting small wire cutters and an x-acto knife. Normally that gets the pieces clean and flushed. Sometimes if there is too much excess on an inner piece it will make it near-impossible to finish the kit.

    Lot of non-Master Grade 1/100 are almost just scaled up versions of the 1/144 kit. Would probably be a better choice if you are having difficulty with the small parts. Master Grades normally have just as much or more small parts as a 1/144 due to the amount of detail and internal parts those include.

      Thx for the tip, since it was my first gunpla i kinda rushed and didnt care a lot about the quality. But now that this one is done i'll focus more in the quality ^^

    pretty clean build for a first timer, i'd suggest getting yourself a Grey gundam Marker (thin) to do the panel lines and face detailing. Also for the last picture, is there something wrong with the green sticker on the leg?

    They are a nice quality model! i just built a 1/144 HG RX-78-2 for my son (he'll be 5 soon) and I was impressed with the quality. It was really tricky applying the eye stickers but I managed to get it just right using tweezers.

    Like you, I thought 1/144 would be bigger so I will be doing a 1/100 next too (for myself) ^^.

    I had a few burrs and some scratches on mine too but I think with care these gundam can be partly disassembled and cleaned up when you have the right tools available.

    Good work and hope to see your 1/100 gundam here one day ^^

    Hmmmm... Panel line it and it'll look more menacing! Hehehe. For the clear parts on its heard, you can use coloured markers to colour it so that it wouldn't look plain with the clear parts. I did that with my 1/100 Exia and it looks awesome :D. You're more skilled than I am, so I think spraying/painting it would do wonders :)

    If you are totally new at building gundams, I'll let you in on a little secret.

    Nail clippers are really good for getting off bits of plastic sprues =P
