Final Fantasy XIV Are you Playing?
With only a few days before the launch of the brand new MMORPG from Square Enix-Final Fantasy 14, I have finally decided to jump on the bandwagon to play the game since a fair number my twitter mates are also planning to play.

I still have an account on FFXI, Gilgamesh server, although I haven’t played it for some months now; as I no longer have the desired to pimp my character any further and it’s hard to keep up with the stuff when I had been off it for so long.

But since this is new and quite a few number of DD parents on my twitter list are all planning to play, it’s a good reason to at least try the game out for a few months to see if I can manage fitting it somewhere on my to-do list. The biggest unknown factor is the server we are going to play in, there has been suggestions that we might go to Gysahl server but according to this particular poll, it seems to be an oceanic server, so I am still debating if that’s the best server for me to go into.

And since I ordered my Final Fantasy XIV Collector’s Edition from Amazon.com, I was able to select the $0.99 release date shipping!
But with my current system, a Quad Core Duo Q6600 @2.93 GHz, and a nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX, it’s right at the bottom of the minimum system requirement to play this 3D intensive game. Since I am not exactly due to build a new computer after just building my Windows Home Server, I am opted to just get a new video card and hope it will be good enough. After some research, I picked the EVGA GeForce GTX460 1024 MB DDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Lifetime Warranty 01G-P3-1371-AR

And I have some more Dollfie Dream related news in my blog, feel free to stop by to read the full coverage if you are interested in what I have been up to =3

I'm going to play when the ps3 verison comes out unfortunately. My laptop probably can't even run the menu let alone 3D anything. I have heard people that are playing the beta say that pc users have to get some sort of controller to play. I wonder why since a mouse & keyboard would feel more natural..
AFAIK, FFXIV, just like FFXI, was designed to be played on a console.
i like the time system when it only allows you to play 8h/week since im quite busy. But i also heard of a lot of problems so im still thinking ^__^
I've been wanting this ever since heard bout it but now that its time for the game to come out my pc is no where near good enough for this and I dont own a ps3 and all this stuff about the fatigue system... think I'll stick with FFXI
Not playing. Been testing since the Alpha and I went from totally anticipating it to utter disappointment. Many of the current issues were brought up in Alpha and Beta 1 and S-E has either not commented on them or has said they will not be in for release but will be eventually.
Unfortunately all my friends from FFXI and AoC tried the open beta and were so disappointed so they aren't playing either. My FFXI friends are the most disappointed in it too. Some of us, myself included, will see what S-E has done with the game around February. Hopefully some of the massive issues (to us) will be resolved.
I, personally, feel it is being rushed and S-E needed to delay the game 3-6 months minimum.
On the spec front: I got a GTX 470 for the price of a 460. So keep your eye out for that Wolf. Also make sure your PSU can handle the GTX 460 and give it enough power. It should run a bit better but I wouldn't turn on Depth of Field, Ambient Occlusion, or AA.
I preordered the Collector's Edition but won't be playing until the ps3 version comes out. Hopefully any issues with the game will be resolved by then.
Waiting for Playstation 3 version then we'll see. To be honest, more interested in the news of Phantasy Star Online 2 coming out next year. Maybe US release won't be far behind Japanese release.
I'm pretty excited about PSO2, too.
not going to play. played open beta for awhile. imo, it sucks as much as FF11.
Nope, I'll stick to my free MMO until I actually start working. Then I'll probably start branching out. Gotta love DDO. :)
I'm really excited about XIV. I can't wait until the 22nd! I've been playing the beta non-stop. Sure, it has issues, but they've acknowledged pretty much every complaint I had and hopefully a lot of them will be fixed quickly. None of the problems stopped me from enjoying the game. The fatigue system sounds great to me -- probably because I have to work everyday and can't spend all my time playing. It'll also let me branch out a lot more. When I played XI I really only focused on leveling and never got into crafting.
I just recently upgraded from a 9800 GTX+ to a GTX 470 and I've been pretty pleased. I was running the game with 4x AA, AO, and Depth of Field without any issues. One thing I learned during the beta was that if you have a second monitor it's worthwhile to disable it while playing.
Sure,I'll join as well.Where do I sign up?
If I do play it I'll be waiting for the PS3 version, although I'm not much of an MMO fan so I might just skip it entirely.
I was planning on playing (loved FFXI) but I'll be waiting for the PS3 version. I'm not entirely sure I'm going to pick it up but I want to wait to hear what people say about it because lately I'm not liking what I'm hearing/reading about it.
ie: I hate the idea of a fatigue system and I'm hearing the geographic features (bushes, hills, mountains, etc.) are extremely repetitive in almost every zone. SankakuComplex has a number of posts about this.
hmm... i've only got my macbook pro Core i5, .... i wonder if it's enuff to play....
i'll have to wait for the PS3 version it's too hard for my laptop....
I plan on playing, though I'll be waiting for the PS3 version.
This I am afraid is a very sensitive situation that I really need to decide on.
I had always intended to play FFXIV. But then as I was preparing to click the preorder button at Gamestop.com I read that interesting article on Sakanku about the whole fatigue system. Now while I may be lucky enough to put in 8 hours a week given my time consumption with school and work, I still am very much DISGUSTED by the idea of it.
I think what it's going to boil down too, is how many of my RL friends are going to be playing it. When it was first announced, my little inner circle of friends from Anime Club (aka the guys who go to crepe house uni after club to LAN) were planning on playing it. Even the owner at the crepe house was planning to join in with us. I don't think this is going to happen, but if it does, then I likely will jump on board. At least until Cataclysm comes out, which I will only be playing until Old Republic comes out ^ ^
Absolutely not. Intentionally limited weekly play time + monthly subscription = biggest crock of fail I've ever seen Square pull.
I'm definitely playing but Amazon isn't shipping my CE until, like, the 27th... thanks, Amazon, thanks :P
Although conversely it give me a little bit more time to invest in getting more/better computer parts. My sister's PC (which I'm using until my parts arrive) only has an Nvidia GTS250, and while "playable" during the beta I certainly would like a beefier set up. I opted for almost the same card as you except I'm picking up a superclocked one based on the recommendations from a few friends.
The interesting thing that we'll see post-launch is how improved the game is from beta, apparently FFXIV's final version has a lot of issues addressed from the beta such as interface lag and crafting lag, on top of just being larger; I read something like 22GB for the install vs. 9GB from the beta. But yeah, we'll see soon enough :-)
All the beta's faults aside, I still enjoyed the game a lot :-)
I used to think Final Fantasy was a cool game for cool people like me, and thus I would get along great with people who shared my gaming tastes... then I played FFXI and realized what sort of people liked Final Fantasy. XD
... ok, maybe that was a bad generalization. But my almost 4 years in FFXI was filled with greed, backstabbing, meta-gaming (a broad category including botting, hacking, and other forms of cheating), racist taunts, and ridiculous probability-based game mechanics that aggravated all the above complaints.
I was the fortunate one, I quit on my own terms. Countless accounts got hacked and years of hard work went down the toilet. Square Enix's process to deal with these events was literally non-existent, so tough luck. They were simply ill prepared to handle the customer service aspect of managing a MMORPG.
I have heard that 2007+ they have got their act together, but after hearing all the nightmarish stories, it will be a hard sell for me to play another Squenix MMO again.
I'll be playing on the 22nd. Probably on the Lindblum Server.
I don't see why people are so disappointed with the fatigue system. It's not even that bad. I think a bunch of sites just overexaggerated or misinterpreted the information.
Here's a pretty good explanation of the fatigue system:

Yes, the beta had a lot of issues, but SE has addressed those at the prerelease event and said that most will be fixed or are in the process of being fixed
aahahaha. i just watched that video. The end of it had me laughing. Now they spewed some stuff about the leveling curve being small, just how small is it ?
I'm sure some of you know exactly what the fatigue system entails, but after reading some comments on it so far, there still seems to be a bit of confusion. It isn't limited play time as has already been mentioned here. After 8 hours have passed, your xp/skill point gain is gimped. I suppose for some who have ample free time, this still sounds bad, but it's not like you can't play at all, you can still progress your desired profession/job at a slower rate or switch to a new one with a new 8 hour timer. From what I've read, it sounds like some people think that you just can't play at all after 8 hours.
I suppose I do give off that impression that I think the fatigue system means I can't play at all.
I know how it works, but grinding out levels is so tedious as it is, just to reduce the xp is completely demoralizing. And if I am going to play a game where I just run around in a main city, I will continue to do that in WoW, because at least it's fun to watch the trolls in /trade
Thanks for all the valuable feedback, I think a bunch of us would ended up in the Gysahl server, if you happen to be there, see you in game.
If my friends and I end up buying it, I will make that server recommendation. My objective friend may have already gone and purchased it after hearing me groan about it. (If I had been like, "omg sooo good" he would have likely brought up the copy paste controversy, he is that objective about things.)
