Otaku Moving Out =[

Posted by Vince088 [www]

Hey all here I am moving out. Which is sad moment for me =[

How do you guys handle this kind of situation before moving out because I'm still in school and my parents are moving out of the state and I'm not planning to go with them. So I'm going to be living with my mom's friend which is a room for rent. And now Im having a huge problem of taking my figures and DVD's and any otaku relatud stuff. I'm planning to sell my figure's soon when I move out because were about to move out the end of the month and I have no time to right now which is I'm still boxing and packing my stuffs. Now I am stressing out and I have work on my part time job in a couple of mins. and I'm going to have to pay rent to be able to stay.

What would you guys do in my current situation?

While I would most definitely retain the majority of my collection, I would also take the chance to cull out some items that didn't really hold the same appeal for me anymore, and sell those off. Then I would separate the remainder into two groups: absolute faves, and still pretty freakin' cool. My favorites would go with me to my new abode, and the rest would go into storage, either at a rented facility, or with the parental units, depending on how much you trust your folks not to get rid of your stuff without asking. ^^; That way, I'd keep my stuff without drowning in it, and streamline the collection to make room for future additions. :) Anyway, good luck with your move!

Exactly what I was thinking. This is probably the best solution. I know that when I move, I'm going to have to look into storage options.

        When I had to put stuff in paid storage, my whole family did too. ^^; So yeah, I'm pretty familiar with the procedure. Hence why I am going to add in: Be sure to meticulously label all your boxes, and individually label cords and accessories for all electronics too. You won't remember what's what by the time you get everything out, I can practically guarantee it. ^^;;;

Thanks for the tips! I wouldn't have thought of labeling cords and such since I don't move often. =^_^=

You're welcome! I used strips of masking tape each labeled with what the cord did and what it went to. I've also used it when moving furniture too, actually. I ended up doing the labeling thing after a move where unpacking the stereo stuff was filled with far too much frustration, confusion, and swearing. =P Glad the tip can help you avoid the same.

Thx Poofiemus! That's what I was thinking too since I can't trust my parents on holding my stuff to them and they are in different state so that would make it even worst. And by the way how much would the storage or facility will be? Never done it though.

And yea my dad told me to label them all too lol never done moving before but I always help with family and friends to carry but never done these kinds of procedures. I can tell your pretty much experience^^

Prices apparently vary depending on the company providing the service and the location, as well as the size of the storage unit rented. It looks like for your stuff you might be able to get away with the smaller units, the $20-$40 ones, (Uhaul prices). After all, you're mostly packing up your own room. If you were storing almost a whole house worth of stuff it would obviously be more expensive.

Here's at least the Uhaul link for your area: http://www.uhaul.com/Storage/Los%20Angeles-CA/Results With some Google fu and some yellow pages scrounging you might be able to find someplace less expensive.

Good luck man..when I moved out I had to sell alot of my stuff to afford rent. But why do you have to sell them? Money, or your renter won't allow it?

Tnx^^ and its not the rent or the renter its the space that I'm worrying about the place it too small and also my twin tv's that will be coming with me. I'm also sacrificing my shelf and my detolf though they're going to Nevada where my parents are going to be living. And with those out then I won't be able to display them.*sigh* =[

Kept all of my collection when I moved (same complex). Dunno how am I going to move this next time around; I'll probably send over some boxes to my parents for them to hold. Just my dragon's terrarium, HDTV, furniture alone takes enough space.

I'd recommend a roommate, rather than staying with family friends. Too much drama. But you're not going to sell ALL your figures are you ?!

Yea I might let my collection go with my parents over there but at the same time Im kinda worried they might do something on it that I dont know.

And yea I might do a roomate but I dont know where to start look. And I definitely agree with ya about the too much drama.

And no way Im going to sell of my figures lolz probably half or less though since I am in a tight spot with the space but dont really have problem with the money only for space really.

Ask them to keep them in a room or closet. Personally I'm more worried with visitors that come over to my parents and even here at my apartment. The people who have stole from me were always family members; figures were fine, but pieces of jewelry and my old camera went missing.

        Family drama fail.

O.O wow.. Family members!?? I cannot think my family or relative members would do that to me but wow.. that's somethin else from jewelry to gadgets?? I think thats already classified as stealing though.. Do they even return it or anything?

To me its not the reason that I don't want to live with my relatives or anything its just that there may be dramas or something that you guys would not agree about. You don't want to any conflict with any of your family members.

And I think my parents will have storage over there and thats what Im thinking and/or hoping that they will do.

Yes that is FAMILY DRAMA FAIL!

Nope, never saw the stuff again. And couldn't pursue it either, didn't have proof and dealing with said family wasn't worth it. I'm a firm believer in karma, and those belongings can be replaced. Painkiller addiction is a big problem here in H-town, so I've learned to take precautions.

The managers and maintenance have access to everyone's apartment mind you, but even they are more trustworthy. Hopefully we will move by next year, I cannot stand those people and the farther, the better.

I see I see... Same here I've thrown away some of the boxes of my old figures. And Im planning to sell those in a really cheap price since I don't have box anymore if anyone is still interested in buying them though. Hmm Professional movers you might want to box and/or put them in a secure place where even they throw the box filled with figures it won't damage them cuz I heard to one of my relatives that they are good but sometimes they kinda mess up in small things. That's what I heard lol Good luck to both of us then^^

Moving is always tough. See if maybe your parents or perhaps friends can hold onto some of your figures. If you have figures that you don't really care for anymore, you can consider selling.

Good luck on your move and hang in there.

Yea it is tough. My parents are suggesting to hold some for me way over there in Nevada but I kinda don't know about that since I never trust them when it comes to my stuff but I might consider that since I am running out of time and lacking of space. And Im definitely sure that Im going to sell some later on the ones I dont really like and one's that don't have boxes anymore. And tnx Neko and I will^-^

Simple. Send it all to me. I will sift through it, keep some, and sell the rest to pay my bills. You get to have a cleaned out room, I get some stuff and some cash. Both of us are happy.

It must be hard, but at the same time a good moment for a new start - I'd keep a few (most treasured) figures, sell everytyhing else to pay rent. you can always rebuy them later - but I think you'll probably won't miss them on the long run.

being able to eat > being otaku

Yea I feel ya^^ The one's Im going to be selling are the one's I don't really like no more nor care and at the same time I can use the money for rent or anythin. And I would certainly agree with you on the last part that I won't really miss them after a long run like some of my really early figures before I became Otaku.

    I would of done the same, but I had to move with my parents. I was still underage. D;

But, if I would not moved, I would of not been an Otaku myself.

I see. We take every part in life. But to me I don't think I would be the same otaku before but I will still play games^^ But when it come to figures and everything I don't know cuz of lacking space in my new room and plus I don't have my shelves and my display glass detolf =[

Maybe you will find a way. I have a ton of stuff that I just put in storage. That way, when I have a place of my own, I can take it out and have a place for them. If not, I will find another way to either keep it or sell them.
