K-On Figmas - Still worth getting?
I was just wondering what you guys might have running about this certain dilemma of mine. I've recently acquired Nendos Azusa and Mugi, and I'm wondering whether or not the rest of the band are still worth getting. Upon the realization that I got Mugi and Azusa because they were too cute, I remembered how I didn't like how Mio, Ritsu, and Yui looked in their Nendo forms. XD In other words, I'm not planning to complete HTT in their Nendo counterparts. On the other hand... Figmas are of a different problem!
I'm wondering whether or not the band in Figma form is still worth getting, considering that the season (and probably the whole run) had already reached its horizon. I know that K-On will be one of those Live-Long animes such as Lucky Star and Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but as we've seen, both had already reached the end of their respective hypes as well... though I feel more attached with K-On rather than either of the two animes I've mentioned. And so it brought me to this dilemma I'm having right now.
I haven't started buying any of the Figmas yet, and if I have to start now, I'd better make it fast. Most of the girls are easy to find, but Ritsu is a challenge and I might have to do a good hunting or two to get her. Plus, having said that I have to buy them fast, 22,400 Yen wouldn't just fall out of the sky to get me all five girls. XD I'm a high school student and that's gonna be quite the challenge. Mugi though really is a *GET* for me, no doubt since she's my fave character of the bunch.
The Otaku part of me is screaming: "YES GET THEM AAAAALL!" XD
but the erm..
still sane part of me says:
"only get those you waaaant" :))
Anyway.
The girls really won't look good on their own.
Go ahead and buy Mugi, but at least get her another companion from the band. ^^
As much as I love K-on, I'm not really aiming on completing either Nendo or Figma.
I'm just getting my 2 favorites, Mio & Azusa in both forms. XD

it still depends on your budget.
If you can manage, then why not? XD

So far, if I were only to get the ones I like *like what I did with the Nendo* I'm going to get Mugi, Yui, and Mio. Of course, if I was getting any more, it would be Ritsu, then Azusa would just be the filler. You mentioned whether or not my budget can take it, and my answer there is "NO! MY BUDGET IS LIKE... enough for a stick of candycane." If I'd buy all of them, my plan is to sell my PSP which would get me enough to buy 3 out of the 4 girls [not including Mugi]. But then again, "I better buy them fast" cause they're selling like crazy.

I think it would be best to just buy your favorite(s) for now,
so that you won't have to starve (I do, because I buy too much Manga with my allowance. ^^;)
But the bad thing there is,
if you'd still want to complete the set, they might be out of stock already, and be at a VERY high price,
since K-On!'s so awesome. :))
Get them if you really love them and if your wallet permits. Too much hesitation and you may just lost the chance to bring them home. However, if you are gonna survive with bread for the next month just because you want to get the 5 girls, i suggest you just get your fav.

I'm planning to live with only air. XD Not even bread - just to get all five of them. I'm still in a wondering state whether or not I should get them, but just to play safe, I'm starting saving. At least that way, when the time I realize I should get them, I'll have the money. If I decided not to get them... well, I have pocket money for whenever a nice figure comes my way. XD

I'm guilty of getting attached to the anime... and my only means of staying with the anime when I have to leave the series, is if I complete all the girls. XD So it might not be love for the characters, but it's love for the series...

Just get those you really like.
It's true that K-On has ended, but with its cash cow status, we might get another surprise lol. And Haruhi still is going strong, I smell a third season or another movie from Kyoani.
Recently, I bought Yui and Mio together. I don't really like K-On that much, but I have an old Gibson Les Paul that I play all the time and my girlfriend really likes Mio.
Long story short, I ended up getting the two that I wanted and they're also the two that sell out most of the time. I only bought what I needed and I didn't feel like I had to buy Mugi, Ritsu, Azusa, Ui or Nodoka (if I'm remembering all of the names correctly).
If you want my advice, only get the ones you love. My girlfriend bought a few Figmas and Nendos that she's embarrassed to have only because they were a complete waste of money.
It's not about collecting a set, it's about collecting something you love.
And as for the alternate "Summer versions" that everyone's talking about, I remember reading somewhere (possibly on the site they were originally posted on) that Max Factory had no intention of ever releasing them. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Save money.
Buy only what you need, namely your favorite characters and nothing more.
You might end up selling stuff you didn't want later on and regretting not saving money for something more worthwhile.
People who bought the whole set of the Lucky Star Winter Figurines felt the same sting.
Oh my! You're speaking frugal! Awww, pwease don't give me the Frugal Card! It tends to trigger my guilt trip. XD
My problem is this - I wanna buy them because I want to preserve the anime in my heart. The thing is, if I only buy some of them, and not all, it won't feel as complete as it could've been. Then on the other hand, as you've said, it tends to be a waste of money. So it's something worth thinking about. XD
I'd really like Nodoka because of her glasses and her hat being so wonderfully crafted, but what would happen if I spent $50 to $100 on securing a pre-order of her from a middleman? Something that will have been only worth $20-$30 suddenly raises in price and I'm left to wonder if I can afford that really nice Figma from another franchise that I love...
Having a strong devotion to a franchise is all well and good, but if you're not going to play with all of those toys and you have no intention of ever collecting the full set (You said yourself that ¥22,000 would only buy you five out of the 7 currently available) then sometimes it's better to just think that you're already doing your own devotion to a series a favor by just getting one or two of those toys.
I'd love to buy some ALTER PVCs because of my devotion to a series, but the expensiveness and the rarity far outweigh the need. I can't justify spending $1000 just to satiate my own sense of well-being that I've done a game or anime justice.
You should probably come to the same conclusion with a few of the K-On girls.
In a year or so, Japan will have a new "Flavor of the month" anime that will be loved by the masses and they'll make toys of it left right and center. Hell, I'm going to call it and say that "Ore no Imōto" will probably be the next big money spinning moeblob machine.
It's already got a PVC and a Figma planned and it hasn't even aired yet!
So how am I going to be able to spend ¥2000 on some new Figma from a series that I might love when I'll have spent ¥22,000 on a series that will have gone out of fashion in a month?
Toss it whichever way you want, buying only what you need is better than buying all of it.
As long as you treasure that specific franchise and what it did for you, you don't need to spend an unjustifiable amount of money on toys that you'll never play with and never fully enjoy. You'll already be doing yourself a favor by just getting the one or two that you love.
Take it from me, buying one toy from a series you love has always been a bit of a thing with me. How am I going to enjoy 20 figurines when I only even look at one of them? ¥22,000 shared between 6 different franchises is always going to be better for the industry than ¥22,000 spent on one franchise.
You'll never love that franchise less by spending less money on it. That's a lesson that some people in this world need to learn very quickly...

Get the ones you like, for example i get Mio, Yui and azusa nendo because they are my favorites but don't think get ritsu and mugi to complete the collection, because i can find figurines that i wish get, and buy some to complete the group it's like trough zthe money. They are expensive and as student i don't have too much money, so better gets only wich i really love to get.
I'd say buy the rest of the band! =W=

I say wait for different versions, after collecting many Haruhi's and Lucky Star's with the time I realized that it's kind of boring having so many looking alike, actually all figures in school uniform kind of bother me now, from K-On only got Yui cuz I love her, would love to get maybe Mugi and Mio but definitely in diferent versions.
My problem is.... I don't think [if any other], the versions wouldn't come wth instruments. Unless Mugi would come with her Korg RX-100 Synthesizer, I dunno what the rest of the band will come with. Mugi's the only one with an alternate instrument.

These are all UNBELIEVABLY cheap. Here in the Philippines [local stores], they're literally double the price due to different forms of taxes and mark up. XD Unfortunately, I'm not a man of online shopping, so sticking to our local shops would require me 11,400 Yen to HTT.

yeah, i was like this too. i was actually planning to collect dead master and black gold saw instead since i already have BRS. but looking at the k-on figmas i wasn't sure anymore cause i wanted to get something that wouldn't waste my cash and something i didn't wanna regret. so i weighed in my likes on both animes and k-on came on top. not because it's popular but there was something in each girl that i felt a connection to.(in behavior and personality) . so yeah i'm collecting them all right now mugi and ritu are the last two :D
i'd totally wanna see at least more guy figmas X3 like the Ouran High guys or at least the assasins from Weiss Kreuz :D
