1/60 Yamato YF-19 Alpha One vs YF-21

Posted by Philabong [www]

Well, since I've already posted the YF-21, I might as well post one with the YF-19 and compare both of them side by side. Afterall, if you have one, you must get both to compliment eachother. As with the YF-21, there were several improvments made to the 1/60 version over the 1/72 version. Most noticeably are the landing gears, crotch piece and shield placement on the arm. But out of all the improvements, I would say the shield placement is the biggest; that huge gaping hole through the middle of the body in fighter mode that the 1/72 version had is now virtually gone with the proper placement on the 1/60 version.

Now you can tell where I got my avatar pic from.

Gerwalk mode looks anime faithful.

I still love the fowrad-swept canard wing design. There's only one other fighter jet in the real world that I can think of that looks remotely similar to this, and that's the Russian's SU-47 Berkut.

So streamline, nothing like the bulky 1/72 scale version.

The YF-21 is actually a bit larger and a bit taller.

Both jets are a must have for any Macross Plus fan.

Even in Gerwalk mode, the YF-21 looks bigger.

Finally, a parting shot finishing off with a close-up. The detail on each toy is remarkable.

Oooh yes, they are a definite want for me! ^.^ I like when they put out quality figures that go through seamless transformations like that. Nice detail too, I'd probably end up playing with them non stop if I went out and bought them. :P

I don't like Macross Seven's mecha design tho... Prefers the good old VF-0 and VF-1 as well as the much elegant VF-25...

Ah the YF-19. I own one. Was a fantastic design except for one major oversight, the connection on the plane's neck, behind the cockpit. It required far too much force to move that part to transform into Battroid. Mine eventually broke... orz

But now I have an SV-51 from macross Zero as well!

That's too bad about your YF-19. I was a bit concerned about that tab too, until I found a video on Youtube that showed you how to transform from fighter into battroid. As for the SV-51gamma, I have that one too, but broke the armor panel on one of the hands. Ended up super gluing it back on. When I have time, I'll post some pictures of that too. I've also broken a small tab off my YF-21, but couldn't figure where the piece broke off from, but it didn't look like something serious. And while I'm at it, I might as well mention I broke a tab off of my Master Piece Megatron too while transforming it from gun to robot. I'll have to post some pictures of that too. Man, I think I'm breaking too many expensive items too easily.

well, short of sanding down the nub, which would have weakened the hold, I couldn't see any way around the issue. at the very least, it can still do battroid mode!!
But I don't have any issues with the SV-51. great design, except for the wings not holding their shape well, but that's a minor niggle.
I really wanted to see a Yamato VF-25 from macross Frontier but we only get a soul of Chogokin, which I am not a fan of.

Actually that problem can be slove. just that the hole is too small, just nicely fit by default. What can be done is slightly lengthen the hole on the grey parts, both side, and the problem will be slove ^^

I even panel line my YF-19 too ^^
