Jian Xue

Posted by rorschach68

Here I have my newest acquisition and a sad story which has not ended just yet...

Mouseover = load notes.
Jian Xue

This week I received Jian Xue from E2046 after a long wait. She is a pre-painted resin kit (basically a garage kit for the lazy/untalented - I am both).

The base is excellent, though it is a good thing that resin is so light or she would tip over for sure...

Mouseover = load notes.

The level of detail on this figure is impressive.

Resin sure does "shiny" very well indeed.

Mouseover = load notes.
Jian Xue

You may have noticed that I have been avoiding photos of the right side of Jian Xue's body. Next you will see why...

Mouseover = load notes.

As you can finally see, the shame of it all is that her thumb broke off in transit. Compared to PVC figures I have received, the packaging for this resin model was pretty "casual". The individual pieces were wrapped in foam but unsecured.

E2046 has acknowledged responsibility for the problem, but their fix seems inadequate to me. They propose to send "touch-up" paint and have me superglue the thumb back. Pretty weak, if you ask me...

    Very beautiful figure you've got there. This is pretty refreshing after seeing all the statues of cookie cutter school girls. You could try fixing the thumb with a bit of epoxy and blue paint. Shouldn't be too hard, and even if the connection isn't perfect, just make something like a small ring to cover up the connection point.

      Thanks for the advice. I have a friend at my work who is an experienced GKer and I might ask him to take on the task if it's too tough for me. I'm not making any rings, that's for sure (not because it's not a good idea, but because I can't be counted on to do it right).

    Beautiful figure! sorry to hear about the thumb and their solution seems troublesome for me too I'd keep it as it is fortunately it's a small detail.

    Their packing is good imo recently got 2 figures from them without a problem, the thing is the resin.........

      Just bad luck for me I guess. Since the resin is so fragile you'd think they would take more pains to keep it all secure...

      One more question, do they specialise in painting resin kits then selling them?

          They're based in Hong Kong. They paint kits and sell them as well (re-casts, very nice quality. Especially if you don't want to fork out hundreds for the originals). They don't go by individual commissions, but rather you can pre-order statues from their "gathering" line.

          Depending what 'gathering' statue you buy, there may be assembly. Queen's Gate Boost Alice came in several parts (Head, body, stand, base and her weapons) while Dark Elf came in three (Statue, sword, base). Some statues come with extra parts (Like goth-loli's Shimei's sword and Saber Lily's flame). I personally love their 'gathering' line, I just highly recommended the EMS option for shipping.

            Heh. yeah right. Judging from the their prices on their website it's more expensive if anything. The Saber lily imitation cost US$ 143.99 on their website. The original costed 9,334 yen retail during the original preorder phase. Granted, their version does have that extra piece of 'flame' there. But judging from their pics the material that they use on saber lily is too shinny. Now I know where some of the bootlegs are coming from.

              Says someone who's never bought a gathering piece; the bootlegs are coming from China. These statues are individually pre-painted over resin, not plastic.

              Pre-order price and inflation aside, $143.99 versus the overinflated $300+ collectors are scalping Saber Lily currently is a decent alternative.

                And I don't want to buy from them if the figure that i'm looking at look like that saber lily. The one posted here is of good quality but not that GSC saber lily imitation.

                And what? people can either get scalped for the cheap alternative as an alternative as opposed to get scalped for the original? Buys are screwed either way. Moral of the story is don't support scalpers and put in those preorders early.

              Online; they have blog posts from their office, but never mention selling locally.
              But they do ship all over the world and their customer service is wonderful. Just don't cancel too often, or else you'll be hit with restrictions.

                I came close to canceling this figure. One problem I have with E2046 is the seemingly random announcement of "release" dates. I understand that this work is done by hand, but on several occasions they were within a day or two of release and changed the date.

                Very frustrating.

                I canceled a batch of orders two years back, so I have to pre-pay for my orders now. :( So got to be careful what I order and make sure I absolutely want it.

                They delayed their Dark Elf three times with no notice; I take their release date as estimations at this point.

            Joni is correct in every respect. The work is beautiful. The price is good too (I would say the price is good if you missed the original release of a figure they are recasting).

            I did use EMS shipping, so that is no guarantee.

              I think I will buy from e2046 later this year. I always liked garage kits more than PVC but I don't have the skill and time to paint them... Its great to have services like these!

              I agree, ofc if the pvc is avilable it's going to be cheaper and the obvious choice but for those rare figures e2046 is great.

      Yeah, I agree. If I was good enough at building garage kits to confidently fix this one I would have saved a lot of money and bought the kit.

      Still, in fairness to them, the only alternative would be to send a complete new figure. I'll try to fix the thumb and maybe I'll learn something from the experience.
