X-Japan!!

if you went to NYCC/NYAF, did you also pop into a certain amazing J-rock concert afterwards?
X-Japan rawked the house tonight (or should I say "ballroom"? the venue they were in is called "Roseland Ballroom"). There was amazing music, great laser effects AND a certain number involving US anthem done on a VIOLIN ... and at one point the entire audience singing "Happy Birthday" to one of the band members (yes, there was even a giant cake brought out on stage)
The line was around for hours in advance (the line stretched around the block and looped back for a second circle around same block. No joke) and many people were in-line for so long.... WE WERE GIVEN FREE PIZZA! (how sweet is that? Feed your fans!)
bonus photo: maybe you saw me? Dorky girl in K-On! cosplay (totally wrong for this show, I know! but never got the chance to change after con.. so...)

Wow that stage looks stunning!!! amazing!!! where exactly is this place? it's not inside the Javits is it? :3
oh no no no, this is a few blocks away (52nd St?) called Roseland Ballroom
Its not a very big venue, and is an "all purpose" type of place (last time it was used for a sugary Disney~princess event! total 180 from concert stuff)
I'm surprised you wouldn't have heard about it , was there no notice or talk of the X Japan show at The anime / comic convention?
I have heard of it but I didn't pay attention while I was following my friends around and I never knew where it was located.
I would have imagined that tickets may have been sold out by the time you got word of it anyway. and to be precise Roseland Ball room is on 52nd btwn 8th and Broadway. and it was pretty big inside.
I was a bit disappointed with the booths this year as I haven't seen any DD or SD related things. My Feito was upset that I didn't bring anything home for her :3
I was so busy running around gettin autographs from my fav artists (totally non-anime stuff) - that forgot to even check for toys (my Mari can just..err... have the badge as a con souvenir!)
it's a bit too large to hang around her neck duncha think? XD
Nyaa~ you're very lucky!!
I totally missed out on L.A. Concert a few weeks ago!! (>_<)
I really really hope I can see their live some day~!!
YOSHIKI~&SUGIZO~!! 最高ー!!
^____^ I am extremely lucky, my friends that were going helped me get a ticket!
Maybe they'll come back for another tour next year! It'll be even bigger and better
Cool! After seeing their performance at the AX this year I wanna go see them perform again with their song BORN TO BE FREE! xD
what songs did they play? i'm curious now o_o
my brain is so scrambled with "yaaay!!!" right now, I can't quite recall the proper setlist
but they did do "X" which made my inner CLAMP fangirl from a decade ago just bust out in a happy dance
and...err... "Silent Jealousy", "Kurenai" and "Born to be free" where in there somewhere too. Plus a bitchin drum-solo! and Piano with Violin number of course
I was there . The line was incredible, it wrapped around the entire block and I was about 100 feet from where the line began, I felt sorry for the people behind me. They rocked it though, very very loud, my ears are still ringing. The free pizza was nice even though I didn't take any. Did you manage to stay on your feet when the crowd was rocking back and forth? That picture you took seems mighty close to where i was standing. Over all a pretty nice show aside from the mosh pitting!
Actually, I stayed in the area far in the back. Like, behind the lil barricade thing that separates the "main dance floor" from where the columns are. I've had really bad experiences being in the middle of crowds at shows, so always stay a safe distance away now.
The photos are pure zoom from my camera (took videos too! YouTube uploads tomorrow)
speaking of moshing - first song in, the Staff was already racing for the front and someone had to be carried out and away.
I thought where I was, was bad but I guess not, I had to barricade myself around my fiancee so she wouldn't get stampeded over, all the while while trying to keep my balance. It was not a great experience but you just have to push back. I guess that's how it gets at rock concerts. Do you think it goes down like that in Japan?
I'm sure Japan fans would rock just as hard! How could anyone not to such amazing drums and guitar??
I don't know what the crowd was like up front at this show, but at like.. american rock concerts... where we did try to be up front... it usually ended with extremely violent shoving, and this one time the guys around me hadda start punching the potheads to save me from gettin crushed
lol, yeah I guess its just natural, I need to go to more civilized jPOP concerts cuz jROCK is gonna get me killed.
There was a bit of smoking going on last night also, which makes me wonder how people think they can get away with it in such a confined space.
I was at their 08 reunion concert. and yea it was crazy BUT, everyone was pretty orderly o.O like everyones loud and screaming but no pushing. i bumped into ppl besides me but thats it
I did hear someone comment at the show how this was the best behaved rock-show crowd.... BUT I also did witness the staffers scrambling in barely one song in and carrying out a passed-out body...
It was Toshi's birthday. (Vocalist and co-founder of the band). Glad you got to go. A friend of mine went to the Oakland show the other week. Seems it was the best event of his life. (He is a huuuuuuge x-japan fan. Probably the biggest. He worships Yoshiki as a god)
If you haven't seen it yet btw, there is a video promo with Yoshiki promoting the north american tour - towards the end of it, you just have to hear him trying to say roseland ballroom
They had a concert at the Tokyo Dome a couple of years ago when I was in Japan and their fans dress up in the most outrageous outfits. Make cosplayers look tame by comparison.
there was lots of people dressed up at this thing too! The early line ones at least, had a lot of funky clothes goin on
I've went to the X-Japan concert in Toronto and it was damn awesome!!! Must have been awesome to go to a con and X-Japan was there!!! I also was lucky enough to get myself a Yoshikitty!!!
well, technically this show isn't part of the con. Sure, NYCC advertised them a lil on the site, but you still needed to buy your own show tickets and march over a few blocks
oooh wow, you have teh Yoshikitty?? NICE!
wah, wonder if they'll come here =(
wonder if they're interested mid next year
