Spooky doings in Torrance! What strange item has Yumiko and Namiko come to pick up at Volks? It will all be made clear.

I should visit Volks one of these days to see what it's like inside.
You're local to the Los Angeles area? It's really cool. They are only open Saturdays and Sundays...the rest of the time the facilities are open, they're fulfilling mail orders.
Here's all the particulars:

good photo zone~
I wanna go and visit Volks someday : )
Ha ha! Those two look like they are having a big time! I really wish I had been able to have Manami with me in Japan to take pics in the Volks stores. Ah well, maybe in the future...
I'm glad you got the head you were after tho. I have to agree that a plain head in the clear box is a bit creepy. Good for the season tho! :3
Maybe if you and your girls come to visit here in LA we'll all go there together. You, me, your three girls and my three Volks girls. I can't bring the Obitsus by there, alas and alack. I understand why, but I sort of wish I could do a full family portrait in their photospace some day.
While I'd love to get out to the West Coast eventually, I am not sure when any trip there would happen. But I'll take you up on the offer if I do get out there!
I can see why Volks won't allow your non Volks dolls there but I agree, it would be nice to get a full family portrait together in their cool settings and backdrops.
It's policy there. I'm cool with it.
Mizi wanted a head? My goodness, what's she up to? XD
Gaah, I wish I'd known about the Volks store last time I was in LA for AX 08. Granted, I didn't really know about DDs back then, but it would have been totally cool. It'll probably be a long time before I get back there. . .
That head is going to have a body very soon...a DD version 1. The strung body. Also on the way: a wheelchair. Mitzi is going to have a new friend. A wounded warrior who is going to the same school she is.
hehe^^ namiko's attire seems like she's ready for halloween^^
Yeah, it is kind of in the spirit of Halloween...purple and black...
ah... these days i seldom see the locals did some trick or treating as halloween became some sort of commerical gimmicks of malls and stuff...
Here in the US, there are actually religious people who are anti-Halloween. They say it's the Devil's Holiday. Actually lots of churches have counter-programming on October 31st, "Fall Family Festivals" and "Harvest Festivals." And families are so paranoid about "stranger danger" that they don't allow their children to go out to trick-or-treat.
yeh, i know what you mean, nowadays, it's just isn't safe for strangers to just chat and walk around anymore.
the last time i can talk with strangers without being a victim or being suspected were around the 90's.
too religious if you ask me. though it may have a point psychologically speaking.
LOL that's a funny face on that pumpkin
Yeah, a very happy pumpkin. Inspiration to go out and get an artificial pumpkin and do one for Halloween, even though we usually don't get trick-or-treaters.
can't wait to see what the new doll is going to look like !
Me too. I have never seen a DD1 doll in person...only seen pictures.
Quick update:
I just paid the lady for the DD1 body. This is going to be REAL. I am 100% DELIGHTED. And Mitzi's going to have a girlfriend. Yay!!! ^___________^
The body is in the hands of the post office now. She is supposed to come Thursday. This is really exciting!
Yumiko and Namiko are so cute. They have such different styles. The Volks showroom looks like lots of fun.
Visit LA and we'll go.
It would be great to leave the imminent ridiculously cold Minnesota weather here. It hasn't gotten that cold yet. Maybe the weather will take its revenge in November or December. January and February are always insanely cold. I have no idea how anyone lived in -30 degree weather without technology. I haven't really been to LA. We drove through it to get from Santa Clara to San Diego.
Early January is Anime Los Angeles at the Marriott Hotel in the vicinity of the LA International Airport, aka LAX. http://www.animelosangeles.org/wp/ I might be involved with one or two panels at the event. There are always doll meets there, and last ALA there was a doll panel (I wasn't involved with that) among the panels. The event will be held 1/7-1/9 2011.
November through February is our rainy season, but we don't get snow except in higher elevations. I think I understand that lyric of Soundgarden's, "I'm looking California, but feeling Minnesota." Somehow humans have managed even in the more extreme regions of the Earth. The Inuit come to mind, as do Bedouin and Mexican/Southwest US Amerind tribes like the Tarahumara and the Teneh. We managed without technology to survive in the Arctic and in the hottest deserts. Humans are pretty remarkable, if you think about it.
Yeah, come visit during the winter. Bring a raincoat and an umbrella but you don't really have to bring massive layers. Like I said, in the flatlands like the LA basin we don't get snow.
That sounds fun, but I will be in Texas in January visiting my family. I am sure there is no lack of anime-related and doll-related events in LA, so I figure there must be lots of opportunities. My cousin went to Anime Expo last year and had a lot of fun. I have been to mostly smaller conventions like Fanime. I have also been to A-kon in Dallas. There is a lot less going on in Minnesota.
The humans of the past may have been more sensible. Kids here try running in the snow barefoot and get frostbite. I am convinced humans with more practical experience wouldn't try that.
What panels are you involved with?
They'll prolly be repeats/refinements of these panels at AX 2010:

Those are nice panels. Good luck with the ALA version.
